How much power is available in the console power outlet?
I have a 'tweaked' Ranger that swings to 200 watts with plenty of modulation that I may want to use in the car occasionaolly with my Wilson 5000 mobile antenna.
Is there enough power available in the console power outlet to handle 20-30 amps at 13.8 Volts?
Thanks,
David

Hardly!!!.....
You'll want to hardwire that baby.
I'd be willing to guess that convienence plug is wired to 10-15 amp circuit, but with a radio like that, you need a peak value as high as possible. Otherwise you just rob power from the radio.
Hardwire a spare power cord and just tuck it away when not in use.
My old BC66 was modded to swing a good 40 watts, and it would take out a 10 amp fuse when plugged into a ciggarette lighter on occation.

And be aware that the power point in the console is NOT part of the circuit that automatically shuts off after half an hour after the ignition shuts off. I know this from experience, I left my radar detector on and it drained my battery. Just FYI :)

Thanks, I have always hardwired mine from the battery in the past.
I was hoping that maybe there was enough juice in the console.
Best Regards,
David
