View Full Version : Front seat leather covering issue?

I noticed that the leather covering on the front of the seats on both seats in the front of the car hangs down with a piece of plastic extrusion sewn on the bottom edge.

Should this wrap under the seat and hook onto something? It looks ok and hangs like a curtain so to speak but I can't help but think this should be fastened to something so the leather is tighter?

Any thoughts on this?

but it doesn't work very long.

It does if you pop rivet the retainer in place.

See posts # 12 & 13.

i used duct tape instead of pop rivet.

Mine has not detached since re-fastened at MV7.

No rivets. No tape. No glue.

:D

Mine has been pop riveted since 2006, no rips or tears.

The reason why it comes undone is the leather stretches and the foam collapses.

It's not that big a problem to put it back in place every few months!!

I have new foam and seat skins so I will probably do the pop-rivet thing when I install them!!:D

I'll be damned! I tried fixing this a few different times, with no luck. I clicked on the link that clmrt gave, saw the diagram, and had it up in 30 seconds. Will it stay? I don't know, but I do know how to fix it now.

After redoing mine after every time I sat in the seat I did the permant fix.

I fixed the passenger side. It was down when I bought my MM. I applied a little bit of pressure on the seat, to try to get the leather to stretch, and so far it's working. My girlfriend sits there 99% of the time, and only weighs 98pnds.. So I'm hoping for the best. If it comes down again, I'll try again. If it becomes a pain, and I can't get it to work anymore, that's when I'll go for the permanent fix. The clip looked brand new! Like it was never clipped up to begin with. Maybe someone big sat there when the car was 1st bought. IDK
