For those of you that know about my Marauder I recently acquired, it is a 2003 300a. I started noticing noise coming from the rear end, a slow "woomp woomp" that is pretty noticeable at freeway speeds. Sounds like its coming from the passenger side. Jacked up the rear end and checked for play, passenger side does have significant play. When I spun the wheels you could hear a similar noise coming from the passenger side wheel, none from the drivers side. I ordered both axle shafts, hopefully they should be here by the end of the week. My other concern is that it seems there is slack in the drive-line. When going from drive to reverse with my foot on the brake there is a thump. Could this be also be attributed to the axle shafts? U-joints? When I have time I will check the driveshaft for play. Any tips for axle shaft replacement? I found a few threads on it and have replaced the axle shafts on my ranger before with my dad so we are comfortable with doing the job ourselves. Im just hoping there isnt more to this than the shafts. This cars my baby and not knowing whats wrong with her is pretty upsetting.

Sounds like you may need axle shaft(s), bearings, seals, etc.

What month/date was your marauder manufactured?

Just had to get a leaky axle seal replaced on my 2003 grand marquis and in my research of the common 2003 panther axle shaft problem, I found that 2003 models manufactured in the year 2003 are ok. Its the 2003 models manufactured in 2002 that have the problemos with the axle shafts.

Good luck, hope you get it all squared away!

Yes, this is why I ordered the axle shafts immediately. Wanted to buy go fast goodies with my tax refund but maintenance comes first. Im gonna do basic tune up with whats left of my return. Thanks for posting that TSB, I was looking it to show my dad.

Could see if a member has some used 28 spline. I picked up a set from a member who upgraded to the 31. (They were from a 2004 so stuff it peanut gallery)
