I love my marauder that it bone stock. I live in louisville and there was a guy at the meet who had a set of cams and now I've got the fever. There is a company in norther ky called proweld preformance http://www.proweldperformanceparts.co m/index.html and they sell some really cool heads and other stuff I don't need. Also I've heard of comp cams being a good aftermarket cam. I'm in highschool and this is my daily driver. While I'm not really worried about fuel economy, but like i said i need to be able to drive it everyday. I have access to ford IDS and was wondering if there was anything that ford offered as far as tuning the car. Any suggestion would be great. Thanks

I would start with a handheld tuner and a canned tune from a site vendor (like Mo's) and gears before a cam swap. Easier from a daily driver point of view and probably less expensive than swapping cams.

I agree with Cj7chris.
I will say though that one of our customers (a member here from Canada whose screen name I cannot remember off hand) did cams and had us tune the car and the car made like 34something to the tire. Not too shabby.

I found an sct tuner under the seat when I bought it but I have no idea how to use it, or if I have to send it somewhere.

:welcome1: :agree: Start with less costly mods like a tune from Mo,JLT & 410 gears that will wake the MM up. :)
I wasn't planning to do the cams but the MM had a prob with the timing,Then was suggested to do cams when everything was apart,Then the cost went up from there.
Still more to do like degree the cams & upgrade the trans with 35000 stall.
If you like I can send you a list of the cost, parts & web sites,It was close to 6 grand but the MM is a monster even without boost.:D

Not only 3500 stall but upgrade the trans with new gears/bands.
I hope to have everything ready for Sept MV 12 in Chicago. :)

I asked this same question in January, was talked out of it in here, and realized it is not very cost effective.
As stated - ~6 grand to get ~345rwhp, spent wisely, that cash could get you supercharged and ~400rwhp, without any other driving changes high lift/long duration cams can introduce.
Budget build is intake, gears, tune, or headers + tune. These can all be enjoyed now and utilized for upgrades later.
It's a sickness, we are not a hospital for cure. We are hooked and dealing with it:depress::eek::burnout:

Yes it is a It's a sickness,The cams I chose are stage 3 blower cams & can handle any upgrade in the future. But the cost to get stuff across the border is insane & the roads are not the greatest in my city.

Yeah, your results nearly had me ready to do cams - then I priced them, springs, headers, head work and install labor :(
Quickly changed my mind. As it was stated to me - these aren't like swapping one cam and make some power, no, swap 4 cams, requiring to be degreed for optimum results, and make some power.
Your plan to have cams ready for boost later makes good sense, though. Provided the engine internals can handle such power:beatnik:
And who doesn't love the sound of a cammed up V8?

First off, props on having a Marauder in high school!
Yes, camming these motors isn't like swapping the cam in an old small block, BUT, if you're planning on making big power with the car (dumping $$ into it anyway), then do it. That being said, if you do go for big power, consider waiting until you pull the engine to cam it.
Mine's cammed, and from what I was told they're "gt40" cams. They're fairly mild, but enough to notice. She has a nice mild lope at idle, and that's a sound that can't be beat. The previous owner had the car on the rollers last and it laid down 315 at the wheels, somewhere in the 6000 range, not above 7300 like some do, and it needs to be retuned bad (OHHH MARTY!!!!)

Man am I glad I do my own work! $6,000?
I'm patient and wait for deals.
1,800 mile used Crower stage 2 blower cams I believe I paid $850
Brian Tooley racing valve springs $200
2nd hand, but brand new Manley intake valves, oversized exhaust valves, keepers, retainers, and seals $500
Valve job and install new parts $550
New Ford racing complete timing chain set. (Installed after initial install) $475?
Cam locking tool set - free (made my own)
$2,100 + timing set (not needed to just upgrade cams)=full of win.
Finally turned my idle down the other day. Holy hell this car rocks side to side now! I've got onlookers from three cars FORWARD at the light cranking their heads in a 180 to see the obvious muscle car behind them making the wup wup wup wup sound.
Funny as hell to see them looking and looking till I let up off the clutch and all of a sudden they realize it's the grandpa crown vic. The look on their face is always priceless. Every light, not kidding, even funnier is the fact it's still cold up here and most all windows are up.

I might upgrade to ZEX, After doing the 3500 stall & also other things had too be changed to accommodate the Blower Cams.

Btw, WPG_Merc...your Marauder sounds absolutely lovely. I watched the video in your sig. Nothin like the "brub brub brub" of an all american V8. If only the whole process wasn't so expensive

"Thanks" was more costly to getting stuff through customs.
With everything the car has it works well with the cams but now needs a 3500 stall cus the cams are over powering the stock converter.Like one thing after another then before long a full out drag car.
I hope I did not hijack the thread my bad:(

How much will a tune, or will it even, effect the transmission. The shift points seam very off. Also are there any horror stories behind 4.10 gears

I bought a second marauder at auction at ran and drove for $750 but it was vandalized and I striped it and have a good motor just sitting so I can build it, take my time and just drop the built one in.

The trans shift schedule can be customized to your tastes.
The 4.10s are a great mod!

Yeah that we me and my dad. He used to drag race and had a 70 torino cobra jet he sold 5 or 6 years ago, and a few rear engine cars. It's nice having someone who knows what he's doing. Plus he's got all the tools I could possible need, since he owns his own auto shop

Get a tune.
Only horror stories about 4.10's are from the ones that didn't did them sooner.

Well in addition to the gears. I did do some research in cams and crower cams had stage one cams 50% off. Do you think stage ones would do any good?

... pardon me if I step on some toes or insult a few here, BUT ... cams are about the last engine mod you need or want to do. OK, you might think you want to do.
A typical hi-skool racer-boy thinks he wants a rough idle bad-boy sound to impress. A sophisticated, ultra conservative 63 year old understands practicality and real world performance. I could go on about life experience from "modding" my dad's '59 Ford when I was 16 years old, to present day, but please allow me just one example:
Around 1968, one of my best friends had a '65 Pontiac LeMans convertible with a 4 speed and a 326 V8. A really nice car. His girlfriend had her daddy's 4 door full size "big boat" Oldsmobile (automatic trans with a 394 V8). He decided to show her his macho-man driving skills and the Pontiac's power by blowing by her in a rolling start drag race. The outcome? She walked right away from him, leaving the Pontiac in the dust.
The OEM 4.6 4 valve heads have great flow, and are an excellent match to the OEM cams. First things first apply in any mods (staged performance), to any vehicle. In the case of a Marauder, they are:
1) A custom tune, such as from Lideo, or other vendors here. They gain hp and driveability, with improved shift points, and without any mods that can hurt the engine or trans. They also come with a program to use when changing to 4.11 rear gears, with matching shift points, and speedometer correction
2) A change to 4.11 rear gears, with an Eaton Detroit Trutrac differential, and (Ford) 31 spline axle shafts
3) The first 2 mods will get you into the low 14 second range in the 1/4 mile. Not quick enough? Try a cold air intake. More top end for Bonneville? Perhaps 3.08 rear gears and a tune to match
4) Headers and a tune
5) A 2 1/2" exhaust system, with Magnaflow mufflers
5) An Eaton supercharger, or else a higher stall torque converter
NOW you might want to consider cams, but you still don't really need them. I believe, a few years ago, the worlds quickest Marauder had an Eaton S/C with stock cams, cast iron manifolds and an OEM exhaust system on it.
