Today I found out my clockspring needs to be replaced. I could not find instructions except for this video, but it's for a Ford truck, not a Panther.

Are the instructions the same except for the ignition switch?

Seems pretty easy.

Also, I will check my connections before I buy anything, but it seems like the clockspring issue is as common as an o-ring fix.... maybe it takes longer to get there though.

My plan is to get a new clockspring at a dealer, junkyard seems too risky.

Sorry, don't feel like watching a video.

Disconnect battery

Make sure the steering is in a neutral state.

Remove the horn by removing the covers on each side of the wheel and the two bolts behind those.

Disconnect wiring.

Insert key and turn one click, Insert pointed object in the small hole under the key cylinder and push up to release cylinder. Pull it out

Loosen but don't remove steering wheel bolt, pull back hard on wheel and in a push/pull movement with your arms alternate left then right, repeat. Wheel will pop off easily and you'll break your nose if you didn't leave the bolt partially in.

Disconnect the clock spring wires under the dash where they come out.

Can't recall how the spring mounts, but I thought it was just a clip? Easy enough to figure out. Then just slide it and the wiring straight out.

New one will come in the neutral position so reverse the dismantle procedure to finish.

With that said your second one should take about 15 minutes to replace.

That's exactly what's in the video.

Thanks BOB!!

Where did you get your clockspring from? Ford?

Yes, some no name dealer online. Honestly it took a good deal of searching to find one under $90 at the time. Sorry, I don't have any part # nor dealer info.

No worries.

I just hope I have something to free the ignition.
