View Full Version : For Sale Original "2 Percenters" Lapel Pin
FiveO

UPDATE: SOLD
Hey gang... in going through everything I found when selling my 2004 Silver Birch Trilogy #48 to a fellow MM.net member I can across a couple gems...
An original "2 Percenter" lapel pin bought about 9-10 years ago from this site along with the MM.net National Member pin...
I don't believe they are available anymore, correct me if I'm wrong.
The meaning of this pin can be found here: (Thanks to SergntMac)
http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=9290&highlight=2+percenters
The very early '02 media kit on the Marauder from L/M included remarks from internal L/M memos that cited the demographics TAF reminds us of now, but it also focused on the "aftermarket" upgrade spin that (at that time) L/M hoped would develop in their favor. L/Ms theory, based on their market research, imparted the concept that 2% of those who buy a Marauder, will spend more money to improve it, albeit perhaps not in these exact words.
I remember reading this as I researched the Marauder before my first purchase, so, that must have been prior to June, 2002. This concept stuck in my head, and I later read it again in Kenny Brown's notes about building the first supercharged Marauder. His notes remain on his web page today, at www.kennybrown.com Go to --custom vehicles--Marauder S--Builder's notes--Overview. Here's a clip of that text.
"Enter the 2003 Mercury Marauder, one of the best and most sophisticated base platforms to date for reshaping into a monster of performance wholly worthy of the name and reputation of Marauder. Mercury, and specifically the lads in the Marauder Group, has pulled off a minor miracle getting a low volume niche car like Marauder through the Ford system, particularly in the current economic climate.
The Marauder certainly fills a need in the market for a moderately priced full-sized sedan with looks, performance and style. However, there are those that are always looking for more -- more power, more performance, more cool factor.
Some clever marketer somewhere off in marketing land has dubbed this group of enthusiasts as the “two-percenters”. These unique two percent of the market are the premier driving enthusiasts who are passionate about their performance. This exclusive group wants more out of the cars they drive, and they have the resources to get it. And that my friend is where we step in.
Kenny Brown Special Vehicles are specifically and painstakingly created for those driving and performance enthusiasts that look at their cars as an extension of themselves and the joy they get out of driving as food for their soul."
After I became a member here, I came to make lifetime friends with MartyO, and he and I went on to design and create two lapel pins, the round black and sliver godshead pin stating "MercuryMarauder.Net--National Member" and the "fender badge" style pin that states "Marauder" with the checkered flag at the leading tip, above that "Mercury" and below that "Two Percenters."
The rationale for creating our lapel pins was twofold. To share in our uniqueness and common pride among the muscle car world. And, to raise money for improvements to our home, Logan's MM.Net web site.
Our round "seal" has gone on to be replicated in half a dozen member initiated projects, such as our 2" round window sticker available through our own MM.Net webstore, and custom embroidery on clothing and accessories now available at our newly announced "Channel D Logowear" from NO4GL. Our "fender badge" went on to become actual correct scale fender badges that sold out fast. ('04 availability of fender badges is expected soon).
For more 411 on clothing and accessories, click here http://home.comcast.net/~n4ogl
So, there you have it. The tag "Two Percenters" was created by an unknown L/M marketing research employee (probably a summer intern that got paid squat for this ingenious tag), and we have given this life from there.
Looking at our behavior here, I think we have earned the tag and it suits us well.
Y'all wanting some pins of your own, visit Logan's MM.Net store. The linky is in your toolbar at the top of every page.
The store has long since closed as the site has changed ownership. The pins were limited edition.
They are currently both available from me...! I will NOT split them..they will be sold together. I do not have the original backs at this time but I'll see what I can do about coming up with some replacements. The pins are original and in perfect condition.
I'm not going to post a price tonight....I know what I want for them. Lets see if anyone comes up with the number.
And so people know they are original...back photo attached also.
Send me a PM or post what you think they are worth. I really don't know....but I have a number in mind.
Thanks for looking!

Of course I remember!!!!!!
There have been some great days during the new Mercury Marauder run...over the last 11 years....
But I have to say....a 2004 Mercury Marauder taking 1st place at a Chevy Impala SS event was close to the top.
I remember doing that burnout and having my whole car fill up with rubber inside...then it clearing out...doing the run..winning by a fraction and then having all the Merc fans (including you) meet me at the pit area when I got back.
It doesn't get better than that....it was classic!!!!
My MM is going to another enthusiast...and will be well taken care of...!

If you're gonna do that, I guess I will call off the underpaid workers I was paying to make mine.
Nahhh, if your going to make them, I'll buy a batch from you, just as give away items....

I'll match her price, as I want to make these available to all members, not just those that go to MV, this is not about reselling for profit as much as is is distributing to the collective, and I give 90% of my stuff away for nothing.
Btw, I have to start another give away........
I like this idea...

Five0 has sold the pins, the original intention of this thread. Depending on the quantity, I'll look at creative ways to share the pins. Stay tuned.
