So a lot has/is changing. People make me offers on parts that I can't seem to refuse. Sold the longblock minus intake, sold the PTC torque converter, sold the single precision, and crossover.

Putting together another 5.3 with the newer gen 4 rods (still stock), better heads (flow 30 more cfm than the old ones, still stock GM), .660 dual springs, hardened pushrods, LS7 lifters, and a custom cam (.561/.561 218/218 on a 112 with 1.5*advance).

This motor should make between 100 and 150 more peak WHP than the last one, and will make a decent amount more down low below peak HP. I'll be getting yank triple disk converter too so I can lock it WOT if I want to.

As for the turbo setup......

I'm having twins! They're 61mm compressors, and 62mm turbines. GT35 (ebay specials). A friend is gonna help me with the hotside. I can build transmissions and engines, but don't know how to weld yet. LOL.

I'm gonna get a 65 mustang radiator off eBay, it's a lot less wide, but thicker. I'll run the hot sides along the side of it and turn the downpipes straight down and out so they will both exit throigh the back of the front number. Instead of just one downpipe out the bumper like I had, I'll have one on each side. For ease, I'll either dump the wastegates straight down, but part of me wants to put em straight up through the hood. I think it would look so cool shooting flames up through the hood when I was wide open making a pass.

Sounds like a mean setup, exiting the downpipes out of the front bumper makes this a lot easier the dealing with routing around that big azz K member and out the back.

I think those are cool, but I don't see myself ever putting one one my car. Although it does have a chevy motor and trans, the car is a ford. I believe it would be a bigger slap in the face to ford if I put a chevy logo in place of the ford. Not to mention, a lot of the big tire bracket racers do that around here (put a chevy emblem on a mustang) and they think it's really clever. I would never want to be grouped in with that crowd. lol

Not to mention pulling a trans, running fuel and cooler lines from the back, it just makes life way easier. and turbos with a conservative cam REALLY quiet it down a lot. I honestly believe the open downpipe was quieter than the dumps I had in the old nitrous 2V setup.

Busy with life, and it's cold. I have the car back in my garage. Putting a buddy's transmisison back together, and taking care of a few other things. The car needs oil lines, wastegate and bov lines, and a bunch of other little stuff. When it warms up, I'll get the motivation to mess with it, but it's not far off!

Well I finally got the car running 2 months ago. I went to LS fest in early september with a completely untested setup (mistake), was fighting overboost issues. Long story short, I lifted the heads (but didn't confirm that until the next weekend at the track, I'll get to that).

I thought I might have too much wastegate spring in, so I took the spring inner springs out, leaving just the larger springs (should have made like 10-12). So I went to test it out, with less spring, only to find out the boost was just all over the place. It made less boost, but it would fall, and rise, and fall, etc.

Come to find out I damaged one of the wastegate's diaphragm's when I took the inner springs out. Then I found out I lifted both heads. So I parked the car for like a month and took care of life duties.

Finally got time to do the head gaskets like a month ago.

Dark spots are combustion going into the coolant:

http://i882.photobucket.com/albums/ac29/cameron878/LS%20Vic/C3DAA1D5-8EBF-4551-953F-A2787CE71C77_zps3sv7mmdd.jpg

In the mean time, I got the injectors flowed, cleaned, then re flowed. Painted the intake, got a new diaphragm, then went for a test drive. STILL HAVE BOOST ISSUES. WTF I think?! So i try a few things, nothing works.
Fast forward to today:

Finally, a good friend of mine that knows a lot more than me suggest I change the boost reference port from the compressor to the intake (my vacuum port log). I also decided I was going to put the inner springs back in because using the intake as a reference, and fixing a few other issues I had, on paper, it should make like 15-18 psi.

I have a very safe amount of timing in the tune at those manifold pressures, so I turned overboost protection basically off (set it to 28psi), and went and did a hit. Boost comes in, hits like 19psi, and falls to 16-17 and stays. Success!! (relative term)

I planned on going to Beech Bend today, but the track is closed for paving repairs on the property. So my last chance before the winter is next weekend (assuming they allow test and tune passes during the big thanksgiving weekend bracket event)

Hey Cameron, how fast is that thing gonna' go?

I hope it's faster than the old setup. lol. I'm trying to keep my expectations low. I will say this, butt dyno indicates the new twin setup feels about as fast on 16-17 psi as the old single setup felt on 19-20 psi. When it's all said and done; I'll have this one on 22-24 psi.

I got the car up and running just before LS fest. Was having some boost control issues, lifted the heads, got it figured out, then winter happened. Then I decided I wanted to change my gauges around, I was tired of manually shifting the 4L80e, and I wanted to redo a bunch of wiring. So I took the car down for a little bit. I bought a racepak, bought a microsquirt and harness to control the transmission (which communicates with my ms3x), and re did a bunch of wiring. Here’s some pics:

http://i882.photobucket.com/albums/ac29/cameron878/LS%20Vic/2699F48C-6676-4497-A92B-B9EA282F65B3_zpsktazbto2.jpg

Got some new wheels, 15X10 weld drag lights. Painted to match the front steelies.

http://i882.photobucket.com/albums/ac29/cameron878/LS%20Vic/019D1D05-702A-4EEA-9F0D-F0BEF39DD6EA_zpsfa9u8cz3.jpg

Also, my engineering and fabrication department helped me add the hardware for a hall sensor on the front wheel to utilize traction control. The first time at the track (prior to having traction control), I did a 130mph wheelspeed burnout when the tires let loose at the top of first (it shifted 1-2, then immediately 2-3) and it was a little sketchy, I decided not to make another pass until I added that.

The car is on 15-16psi now and made this pass last night. Creeping up on my personal best (6.44@111) with the old single setup. This is the 7th pass on the twin setup. I’m very happy with the results so far. I’m going to the 1/4 next weekend for an event, gonna see what she can do on a couple more psi.

I got the ms3x prior to discovering sloppy mechanics. Then I started asking Matt a bunch of questions over the years. Now, he's someone I'd consider a good friend. And yea, I copied his Colorado right after he got the racepak. Lol. That's who setup all the software side of my operation (my tuner studio, racepak, micro trans controller, traction control, etc.). I just wired it all, texted him, we got on team viewer in my garage with the computer connected to the car, and he worked his magic.

The racepak and micro trans controller were worth every penny. I'm in love with the car again. It's almost like driving a near stock JMODed Vic (minus the open downpipes or loud ass magnafuel 4303) as far as driveability

Went to the 1/4 today. Passes were on 18psi, then 20psi, then 20psi without the filters on. I don’t have much in suspension, so I’m getting creative with the gas pedal until that’s in the budget. It was a successful day because I made three passes, and then drove the car home 75 miles under it’s own power. I’m pretty satisfied with my $580 worth of turbos! Got a few things I’m gonna change/try before I head to the 1/4 again to try and get back into the 9s, just thought I’d share some results with you guys!

Pulled the 3.55s. Putting 3.73s in tonight. I want the car to leave a little harder, and I want to be able to utilize my triple disk converter. It was hitting the traps with 3.55s at like 6350, unlocked, in 3rd. The 3.73s will get me to 145 at 6500 with the converter locked. That's at the upper end of what I think this setup would ever do. If it somehow traps more, the limitter is at 6800, so it has a little room for more mph. Heading back to the 1/4 in a couple weeks.

Did some comparing of a couple pulls. 85 to 130 is the cleanest area of the log, so that's what I looked at.

http://i882.photobucket.com/albums/ac29/cameron878/LS%20Vic/7A4789D8-D233-4372-9E28-E6E39143C079_zpscbr8devs.jpg

So with the 3.73, it covers the same speed range, .03 quicker, on about 1 less psi. I didn't change the boost controller settings when I did the gear change, because I knew it would load the engine slightly less, and I wanted to see what it would do to the average kpa. My ricer math indicated the 3.73 would be a step in the right direction, and this data is promising to me. I knew it wouldn't be any spectacular change, but it was worth the couple hours I put in. I got the gears for free from a buddy, so it only cost me time and a couple quarts of fluid.

Duty cycle1 95.9 was previously 86.x

Don't tell me that's injectors??????

That car should really come out good now, how tall are your rear tires?

What size injectors are you running?

CameronVic

PW (pulse width) is what really matters 25 is max.

28" (275/60-15)

120lb injectors.

Little update, went to LS fest today, entered in true street (30 mile cruise, then 3 back to back passes). New personal best and then some carnage! Hahahah!

5.3, 4L80e, Jake's performance triple disk, 3.73, eBay gt35s, e85, 22psi, 11-12*.

Datalog looked perfect. I think the ring gap was a little tight for the setup given the circumstances (back to back passes in the heat). I'll go looser on the next one. Already talked to the cam guy, he said he'd give me a deal on a new one if this one is massacred, so that's good. Lol

It's 3950 with me. Might be going on a diet this time around. I'm looking for an aluminum 5.3 and may be ditching the air to water setup and putting an air to air on. I know it's not as efficient, but I believe with it being on e85, it won't be a tremendous difference, and perhaps the 150-200lb total weight loss will be nicer on parts

Got the car back together! Made a couple changes this time, bigger engine (still stock bottom end) and bigger turbos.

6.0, twin on3 7065 turbos, eBay air to water, 4L80e, Jake's performance triple disk. This was the best pull. 21psi average, 12*.

884/800 torque. Pulls were with the converter locked.

Rods are seemingly the "weak" point in stock LS stuff, the rods in 5.3/6.0 are the same. Just a 4.000" bore, 5.3 is 3.780" bore. So they're not really stronger, they'll make better torque apples to apples.

Well I watched the entire 2:13 of it

You mentioned running bearing material thru the turbos and eventually ruining them
Why not make your own turbo saver like us grand national guys and have supplied oil to a oil filter housing, then run filtered oil to the turbos

You can wreck 50 motors and never hurt the turbos via oil. Plugs and valve debris might hurt the exhaust wheel, but best chance with fresh oil all the time

Good video Cameron!

Little (well not really little) update on the car. After getting the car dynoed, my buddy made the switch from megasquirt to holley. After calculating how much money I had in megasquirt and the recepak, I decided to just sell everything and buy the holley dominator.

I have a buddy thats a holley dealer and he hooked me up proper, so I barely had to come out of pocket. I sold the 120lb injectors with the megasquirt and got some 210lb injectors as well.

Then I got sponsored by Jake at Jake’s performance and he sent a D3 trans brake for my 4L80e. This is when it really started to snowball. I figured now was the time to upgrade the rear end from the T lock and 31 spline moser axles. So I got another buddy to weld some billet 9” ends on, 35 spline strange axles, 5/8” screw in studs.

I went with the late model big ford 9” style ends/bearings because I had read I could us explorer rear brakes with them. Turns out, explorer caliper, rotor, and caliper brackets are pretty similar. after some creative thinking and some finesse, I ended up with explorer caliper brackets, stock vic calipers, rotors, and pads. Of course I had to drill out the rotors to accommodate the 5/8 studs, but when I put them on, I found the hub on the 35 spline axles was a little larger than the old ones, because the ID on the rotors wouldn’t fit. After 20 minutes with the dremel, they fit.

I also decided to change torque converters. I sold the triple disk and Jakes performance is making me a custom non lockup (252mm nissan core converter) for the car. It’ll have great street manners, and be very efficient (low slip percentage, efficient coupling) at the track.

Also, pulled the 3.73s and bought some used 3.55s on eBay to throw in. This is for 3 reasons, to calm it down leaving with the brake, help with cruise rpms since it’s gonna have a non lockup converter, and because the 3.73s with the lockup barely got me through the 1/4 mile under 6900rpms and with the non lockup, it won’t be perfectly 1:1, it should be around 3-5% slip

So long story longer, this next go around I’ll have holley dominator (engine and trans control, boost, bump box, etc), Trans brake, non lockup converter, and upgraded rear end. Here’s a little rear end porn. I’ll take some more pics soon, I’m gonna try to find some time to put the dominator in this week.

It's a spool. I believe there's something called an S track for 35 spline 8.8 stuff that strange makes. Not sure if it's out yet or not, but I don't have the $1400ish that I believe they list for anyway. LOL. My spool was $150.

Awesome set up, props for all the hard work!!

If you street drive this a lot you will hate the spool..... I know I did in my older car.i hear that from like half the people I talk to, then I hear I'll only notice it on really tight corners. My fuel pump is basically as loud as my open downpipes, and I've gotten used to all that, so I think I'll be okay with the spool. I know I won't be able to drive it in any sort of rain, car doesn't have wipers and it stays on drag radials, so that's not a problem.

Car is ready for passes. Trans brake works, tested it in the shop's driveway. LOL. No leaks, just buttoning up the little stuff and fixing minor issues as I find them. Been doing street pulls to get the AFs and boost controller settings dialed in, my friend has been looking at my logs, and making adjustments. It's dialed in on 18psi, and it feels strong. We decided there's no point in wasting time with 18psi at the track, so we're gonna get it dialed in on 22psi this week with some more street pulls, and I'm coming out swinging on 22psi this Friday (as long as it doesn't rain) at the local 8th mile. I'll keep you guys updated!
