View Full Version : Flasher inside LCM?

No turning signals, no flashers.
2 blown fuses. Replaced them both and still nothing.
I looked into this and it seems it's one of the 4 relays in the lcm. Is this correct?
Still have headlights.
Do I need to do the lcm repair again to one of the other places and have a second external relay?

Probably not the LCM. You need to do more PD.
I seem to remember so work done with the clock spring.... I'd be looking there first.
Yes the flasher is in the LCM.

Make sure that the hazard switch isn't in the halfway position between on and off, It can cause your exact symptom ... I see that quite often at work with the Crown Vic taxis we maintain.

Ok I will check that stuff out.
The hazard switch is not in the half way position.

Ok, it was worth a shot. Still could be a bad multifunction switch.

You have been having issues with your horn and the wiring so, I would check your wiring from front marker light sockets and work back and check for loose connectors and chafing on the harness. This should be easy to do and you can take that out of the equation.

Horn works, turning signals and hazard lights do not.

+1
Then again, could be as simple as one tiny wire grounded out..

Didnt you have a bad connector @ your horn,?,,, if you were checking your wiring for that then you could of pulled slack in your harness which goes over to the side marker light and is in the same area as the horn and either a connector came loose or a wire grounded from the harness shifting

I will check that too.
As I have learned... think about what I F-ed With before it all went wrong.

FYI, fuses 12 (hot in run) & 22 (hot always) run right from the fusebox to the multi-function switch first and then to the LCM. Fuse 19 is the brake light/shift interlock feed (blown fuse won't come out of park).
Depending on which fuse is blown that may help the diagnosis.

:hmmm:
.... just like 50 percent of the drivers in the DC/Baltimore area!
Move out to this area and don't worry about fixing it.

Ain't that the truth but really it's more like 80 percent of drivers!

I forgot to mention my brake lights are out again too. I properly put butt connectors on my wiring and the brake lights are still not working. I made a little time today to go to the auto part store and buy a test light, to make sure my wiring is not the issue.
My LCM was already repaired by Zack, but I have heard of LCMs going out again or having another one of the four relays going out.
I contacted Ford for the recall and seeing if I can get a new one. They will call me back. Right now it's time for a test light and seeing what can be done about the brake lights.
Random thought.... do you guys think hooking up 4 Cadillac horns had anything to do with this problem? That is the only thing electrical I have done lately.

Why so many electrical issues lately??
Maybe it's your brake light off switch you wired in!

So did the issue start after you hooked up the horns?

I know I did that horribly. I wired it up correctly with butt connectors and bought a test light.... thank you autozone rewards points.
The brake lights are a piece of cake. I am worried about this flasher.
I will go to a yard tomorrow, grab another LCM, install it and see if the flasher works again. If so, I will put the broken one back in, go to a Ford dealer and have them give me a new one.
I called one and told them my exact plan and they are fine with it.
Today was a good day.

After. I figured I might have too much power going. 4 horns (for all 4 notes) as suppose to one, but I do not think the horns have anything to do with the LCM.

Everything is tied in somehow. When you hit the lock button on the key fob, the parking lights, taillights, and tag light all flash and the horn sounds which is partially controlled/passed through the LCM.
Same thing with the wacky wipers where some people have had headlight issues because there was a feed backing into the lcm. If the lights are left on auto and the wipers are on for more than 30 seconds it will automatically turn the lights on.
Remove the horns (or at least unhook them), replace the fuses and see if everything works.

I'd remove each fuse individual and see if it works properly then move to the next one until it acts up. Maybe you can pinpoint the problem then

You win.
You are correct.
It was a 20 fuse that was for hazard lights, brake lights and turing signals.
Cadillac horns were disconnected, new fuse put in. Worked. Reconnected Cadillac horns, blew horn, tested lights, they worked. Did the same test again and everything is fine.
Thank you. I cannot believe this was fuse related.
No wonder you guys pick on me all the time, I do not know anything about cars except how to cause problems and not know how to solve them.
Thanks again.
You guys are the best.
I am driving around the country soon. If you contributed to this thread and I am passing though, stop me and I will buy you a drink. Seriously. Drinks on me!
