Book time on the labor is around 7 hours iirc, first timers will take that long unless your super double mechanically inclined.

...or unusually small hands. There is a post in the resource room on this http://mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=69180

Plus since I have normal size hands made a tool that helped a lot.

Look in my photo gallery for more pics and descriptions. Plus test the new actuator by plugging it in and running the test. The first one I got was a dud. Thankfully I didn't close the dash up.

What is the item pictured with something blue wrapped around it?

Adrian welcome to the failed actuator victim club.

For the second error code did you mean 025?

While I was communicating with service shops gathering info on this never ending - on going disaster. I came across a mechanic in Florida who services and maintains police vehicles.
There just happen to be a cruiser with a bad actuator and the mechanic demonstrated to me a simple neat trick which provided AC in a pinch.

Pm me if you want the procedure that will hold you over.

Defective blend door codes are 024 & 025. If you run the self test 3 or 4 times sometimes it will clear up the problem for awhile.

Do Police Crown Vics have manual A/C controls (no EATC)?

What is the item pictured with something blue wrapped around it? Looks like it might be a socket that's been ground down to fit inside a box wrench.

What a PITA job it is to replace the blend door actuator. I have large hands and had to have a friend help me with it. We went in through the airbag/glovebox opening area without dropping the dash as some people do.

I've done about 6 or 7 of these now. A little trick I use is to remove the rear screws and then pry the old actuator up until the front mounting lug snaps off leqaving the screw in place. Then back the screw off a few turns and remove the broken tab from the old actuator.

Then I cut very end (the rounded edge) of the most forward mounting ring on the new actuator off. It will make the front mount look like a slot instead of a circle. Then you can run the forward screw down almost to the end. The forward edge of the new actuator will slide under the screw. Instal the rear screws as normal. I use a 5/16 flat ratchet on the forward screw to tighten it the rest of the way. I have heard people cut away the firewall insulation to make more room to get to the screw but this way you don't have to.

And I have big ham hands too and the wife got tired of me talking her thru removing and installing the front screw.
