Just wondering if anyone here swapped out their wiper arms for the better looking hook style? I had a 2007 crown vic that had the newer style. Not that I swap wipers that often but the hook style looks way better and the wiper itself will look better lower on the windshield. Here are some pics to show what I am talking about.

Current kind that are on our MM's from the factory

Style I would like to have

I haven't swapped wiper arms, but I am using the older wiper arms with the newer style wiper box and cowl and wiper linkage in an older car with no issues.

Wonder if I have to swap the motor or linkage to make the newer style arms work?

Why??

Unless you get the same length, bends, tension etc. The wipers won't work correctly.

They are the same bends if they are off a newer Marquis or Crown Victoria.

I am using the MM wiper linkage as well, and the older arms work fine. I am using the older wiper motor but the old motor bolted right up to the MM linkage. I would try to find a set of old arms from a JY and try them out I bet they work fine.
If not then you are not out anything.

I switched over to the invisible windshield wiper (http://www.rainx.com). Looks much better:

(I don't drive in the rain too often and never have had an issue...but I keep the arms in the trunk just in case...)

^ha if it didn't rain damn near every other day here or at least a couple of times a week, I would definitely consider that. Didn't the older crown vics and marquis have wipers that lowered into the cowl when they weren't in use? I am assuming that was a separate motor too?

UPDATE? Did the wipers work. I would like lower profile wwipers too.

It is not a separate motor...there is a cam on the linkage that trips a switch causing the motor to operate in reverse, lowering the arms.

That's the way they are on my DD and I hate it compared to the MM. When they are on delay, they sit way up on the glass and the blades suck to change unless you remove the arms.

No update just yet. Going to get the arms from ford sometime this week.

has anyone found a wiper arm that tucks into the bottom of the windshield? Pics please.

Since the MM does not have depressed-park wipers, if you did find such an arm, it would have an incorrect sweep.

If it swept 80-90% of what the stock could do I would take it. Sits way to high looks like a school bus.

Couldn't you leave the wipers on, then kill the ignition when they are at full extension?

Never mind. Someone removed a post I was responding to.

Actually, I re-read the post you quoted a couple more times and then your question made sense. I mentioned that I have to remove the arms to change the blades on my DD.

To answer your question, no. The problem is that even at full extension you can't move the arm away from the windscreen enough to rotate the blade to where it will come off...the arm hits the hood.

Got it. Yeah, that does suck.

Open the hood and remove the wiper arms.

Open the hood and remove the wiper arms. That's what I do, but it takes a lot longer. On the MM I can change both blades in less time than it takes just to remove one arm on the DD...plus you have to worry about losing the little key.

Fastblackmerc Have you ever thought of cutting the wiper arm then adjusting it and welding it back on so it would sit lower? This could be another service you provide.

Never paid much attention to wipers unless they need replacing. Where the wipers sit does nothing for the the look of a car to me.

No I haven't...........

If you make the arm sit lower it will sweep / clean less area.

Design one that will fully sweep. One day I might go to a junk yard and look at arms from other cars and try a swap.

You'd have to redesign the motor / gearbox / actuator assembly, I think. The arms would have to rest deep in the valley, then arc over in a sweep greater than afforded by the current actuator.

Or just use a ton of Rain-X. And hope fuzzy bear misses it when they look you over...

I know this is a bit old, but info for anyone else looking at wiper blades or arms. I replaced my factory pin type arms with the hook type arms off of a 06 or 07 CV. I did this so I could use Bosch Icon wiper blades. I have had better life from the Icon blades than the other beam blades and they are not available for pin type arms. The 06 style arms appear to be identical to the factory pin arms except for the hook instead of the pin.

I recently did the same thing in order to use the Bosch Icon wipers. They move and park just like the originals. I hated the pin type wiper arms.
