So after 244K miles decided its probably time for rear control arms. Started feeling that little bump from the rear axle on stop and start.
For those of you who like to keep your MM all original here's the Ford part numbers and some info.
The Watts link is the same for the CV/MGM and MM. The part number has been updated to 8W1Z-4264-B, List is $154, but usually can get it a little cheaper. This is the whole assembly with both arms and the center pivot all assembled together.
The lower rear arms are same for CV/MGM and MM. They are updated part number 8W1Z-5A649-A, list $90 each. Same part for both sides.
There are two choices for upper rear arms (regular and heavy duty). My parts guy decided to check the "as built" factory records for the car. It is a 300A built June 2002. This showed the Marauder was built using the the CV Police Interceptor upper rear arms with a 1998 part number. This number has been updated to 8W1Z-5500-B, List $88 each.
Being curious as to the difference we pulled the regular upper arms off the shelf and compared them. The only difference is that the PI arms have a different forward bushing than the regular ones. It has a different color code and feels a bit harder than the regular arm bushings.
I also noticed Moog lists two different bushings for the rear bushing in the front control arm. One for regular and one for Police/Taxi.
Comparing the two, the Police/Taxi ones have more rubber in the space between the center mounting bolt and the outter bracket. The regular ones have more open space. The rubber seems a bit firmer as well.
So, for less arm/axle deflection use the Police arms and front control arm bushings (or entire control arms).
The Moog part numbers for the front rear bushing is K80836 (right) and K80835 (left).
For those using the Metco arms..never mind...lol
