View Full Version : How I learned some eaton swap patience...

Well, the weather here in Michigan has FINALLY warmed up a bit more and I just tackled a little problemo I had when I installed the rear head cooling mod during the eaton swap.

I had scored the bore during the process of the rear head cooling mod and it was due to me not paying close enough attention and underestimating the task...

I'm saying this to everyone and anyone to take your time with your car and treat it with respect as you modify. It really stinks having to dig back into it and correct it with the fuel rails in place, when I should be out there tearing it up on the streets/track instead!

But it's all fixed up now and I'm letting the permatex 2 setup for a good week or so. No rush here.

Wanted to share a few pics of the process:

Couple small nicks around 3:00

And the gouge which leaked at 9:00

Used some JB Weld to fill it in:

Roughed it up a little with some sandpaper before installing the new fitting:

And a new fitting installed:

Cannot believe I had considered using Bar's Leak :shake:

Just glad that I only screwed up the drivers side or else the lower intake would have to come out!

Anyways, DON'T rush this stuff how I did. Take your time and ENJOY the process :D :burnout:

You cant gouge anything if the freeze plug is removed properly.

Use a punch on the inside of the cup, NOT the edge.
Once the freeze plug is down a ways, use a channel lock pliers to yank it up and out.

You don't need to wait a week for the permatex to setup.

I wait 45 minutes then go.

Glad you got it fixed and your advice via pm worked for me, thanks!

Raises hand. I have a stupid question. On a stock N/A MM isnt that coolant tube on the passenger side head not the drivers?

And glad you fixed the car. Now drive it. :)

Yes. You can keep the stock tube but it needs to be massaged toward the back so the intake will set down all the way
