Question about Megs tips

I was polishing the tips today with some Mother's Mag and Alum polish and is I was working it in, I noticed there were some weird bits of what seemed to be plastic on my microfiber rag. At first I figured it was just some road debris, but I noticed more and then realized it was coming off the tip. It seems to be some type of clear, plastic-like film and it was peelin off in little bits and pieces. I got concerned. Any ideas as to what it could be? Please don't tell me I was takin off some protective coating... :confused:

Also, are stock tips from the factory Megs tips, just with resonators?

On the bright side, the Mother's polish is fantastic! Really got things nice and shiny.

Previous owner might have put something on the tips.... why I don't know as it would surely burn off.

Tips are uncoated from the factory and had resonators installed.

Hm. Well, sure had me confuzzled. I just kept peelin it off not knowin what the heck I was doin. Guess I'll try and get the rest off and then polish there as well. Anyone else shed any light on this?
