So I installed the thump tensioner and it sits further in the 12 o'clock position and hits the vortech bracket not letting me bolt the supercharger back up. Any ideas their is a face plate on the tensioner but don't want to unbolt it to rotate it cuz te spring might unleash.

When I ran the single bolt tensoiner I ran into the same issue and had to notch the vortech bracket for clearance, what ever you do, don't attempt to disassemble the tensioner, it's under an extreme amount of tension! (Pun intended)

Yeah I figured it out the "nipple" that locks it into the timing cover is at the wrong location and have to send it back to thumper. But it looks like I might have to trim some of the bracket too. Thanks Motown

Hey Motown how did you get the belt on with the tensioner being covered and no "reinhart" special tool to load the tensioner?

LOL you should see some of the ways I've gotten belts On & Off with the vortec...
best way i've found...
pry bar from below on the tensioner & a buddy up top slipping the belt on...

Before i switched to a 3 bolt timing cover, i had to use a 48" pry bar on the side/body of the tensioner from underneth the S/C bracket, yes it was a pain to change belts!:mad2:

Lol great! I had to take off my vortech to get the thump that did not fit then the original tensioner is worse when input it back on and fired it up the worst belt slip I have heard. I am debating on returning the thump cuz it seems like it will rub the bracket if it will even move after I even notch it out. Might just buy a handful of stock tensioners.
The only way you will have belt slip is if the belt is too loose.
VMP used to make the tool for the tensioner, I don't think its available anymore per their website.
Landy made 21psi with a 6 rib system and a YSI. You have to modify the tensioner so it travels further towards the drivers side to get a smaller belt on.
What pulley are you using, and what size belt?

The tensioner is not returning to its original position that's why I tried to change it out with the thump. But I believe it's a 110.5 with the stock pulley on the vortech maybe 3.6 if I remember correctly.

REALLY:confused: i beg to differ bud! i had the proper size belt, and still had a ton of belt slip, i didnt want to spend money swapping out front covers, and buying a three bolt tensioner, but it was the only way to eliminate belt slip, it really is a far better setup than the single bolt timing cover, and i can actually change the belt by my self! lol

My bracket is spaced out to line up with the 8rib setup, are you running the stock 6 rib pulleys? if so i would imagine the Thump is a tight fit against the S/C bracket.

I was talking to the OP lol.
18 psi with a 6 rib belt and stock tensioner is a no-brainer if set up correctly.
Not knocking you, I speak from experience.
OP, the 110.5 should be ok. If you drop a pulley size, you will need a 1098

You said it couldn't be done, I know it can...And so does Landy.
Not looking to argue.

Lol yeah I have the 6rib setup. Anyone know who could make a stronger tensioner out of or to the specs of a stock tensioner?

I also notched the SC bracket and also modified the stock tensioner so I could turn it more clockwise to use the shortest belt possible. I thought about getting the thump tensioner from Motown for Jflaves car but did not want to deal with going under the car to get the belt on and off. I also milled down the outter lip of the PS pulley to help install the belt.
I made a tensioner tool for the stock tensioner out of an old trailer tongue jack bracket. Works pretty good.
Make 24 psi thru the Icevex IC with the stock tensioner and 8 rib kit. Need 2 Vortec blow off valves for that much boost to eliminate the compressor surge when you close the throttle.

I would RE clock the Thump if you need to, its a better tensioner than the stock unit.

Thats a mean setup, looks like a 10 sec ride in the making.

Yeah the only problem is when re clocking the thump is that it will be pressed against the vortech bracket and I will probably have to maching the tensioner arm and vortech bracket for it to move freely

I didnt realize it was that tight without spacing the bracket for an 8rib setup, i cant think of anyone else who makes a stronger single bolt tensioner.
Make sure its not scratched from installing/removal or they will not accept it back for a return.

FYI: Lethal drop ships directly from Thump, and returns are sent to back to Thump, i bought both of mines thru Lethal as well.

Nice tool Chris

So did they not take it back cus if so I will just have them re clock it and shave a c hair off the tensioner arm.it does have some very minor scratches from install.

Nope i sold it on Ebay! if its not in the condition when you received it, they will not accept it, if i were you i would modify the bracket and install the Thump.

I switched the front cover & run a cobra tensioner... I believe Zack recommended this change a long time ago... brackets had to meet with a dremel to allow full tensioner movement...
anyway I am running 10-1 compression & get a lil over 20psi via vortec JT-trim ( very simliar to the YSI) froozenboost air-water IC. & blow off is used as a bypass to supercharger inlet. Bypass installed post IC
setup is still a 6-rib & no real slip... I do get some belt hop if gas gets let off too quick during WOT runs...
running a Dayco poly rib - 5061130
Tensioner must be pryed bar to full open in order for belt to slip over water pump...

Wow nice setup! Does anyone know what type of pulley I can put on the driver side of the timing cover because their is a bolt hole at the bottom of the valley of the head and intake and alot of belt on that side with nothing touching it.

You cant do that with a vortech, only a procharger

Is this what your referring to? I used a 70mm pulley from.....you guessed it..Thump! LOL , and i bought the pulley stand from Jerry (Lji372)

see the linked thread for 2 different setups Zack has used in past to help stop the belt hop...
Perhaps Zack can shed more light as to how these mods have ended up... Still in use & how well they worked...
That's exactly what I was talking about!
You can only use that on a Procharged car or a Vortech using a 96-98 Cobra timing cover.
You cant use it with a Mach 1 bracket and Marauder timing cover, for obvious reasons.

Finally installing that extra pulley next week. Thanks for making the adapter/sleeve, Zack.
