So, 2 years ago it was just me and Roadwarrior.

Last year, looked like there was going to be 4 or 5 coming out, but then the gubberment shut down.

This year will be different! (I hope)

This year's BRP run will take place on Oct 18th, 2014. I've attached a tentative itinerary; basically, get on BRP at 10am and off by 5pm. One of the stops includes having lunch at the Mt. Mitchell State Park Restaurant. In a nutshell, we will drive on the BRP from MP 384 to MP 354 and back. Several stops along the way with drive times ranging from 30-45 minutes between stops.

Activities will be planned for those arriving Friday night and those staying over Saturday night. I will be up front about hotel costs; unfortunately, fall is the most expensive time of year hotel-wise around these parts. Last year the cheapest quote I got was $126/night (taxes included) from the hotels that are on my side of town. I will re-check rates later this month. If you can get a cheaper rate in a different part of town, go for it.

Some event ideas I'm thinking about for Friday and Saturday night are:

--Tour some of Asheville's micro-breweries; we've got 16 or 17 now and that number is supposed to reach 2 dozen by the end of summer. Cost of tour right now is $10-15, depending on which company you book with; free samples are offered at each brewery, typical tour visits 4 or 5 breweries and lasts 3 hours.

--Ride the "La Zoom" comedy tour bus; since it'll be Halloween time, there will be a 'Haunted Tour' going on at that time. I've read a lot of reviews (over 50) about this tour bus and all but one said it was a blast. The tour lasts 90 minutes and tix last year were $15....and you can BYOB on the bus. I even met the 'flying nun' that is part of this tour a couple weeks ago.

If these ideas don't tickle your fancy, not to worry; either evening can be spent walking through downtown and finding something that does tickle your fancy.

If, for some reason, the north route is closed, I will have a back-up plan to go the south route.

I know its 5 months away...just wanted to go ahead and get a jump on this now, unlike the last two years.

I'll be having some vacation days available by this time, depending if I'm going to MVXII & the remaining vacation time I have left to take off the Friday before the BRP & a few other car shows. Subscribing.

I'm in for this year too. I'll probably stay at the Quality Inn that I stayed at for the car show last year, it's basically down the hill from the Holiday Inn.

I'm down for almost anything, i'll come up sometime Friday and leave out Sunday.

Not sure what everyone's taste in music is, but Kacey Musgraves is at the Orange Peel (wherever in town that is) the night of the 18th. I'll most likely go, been a fan of hers for a while. If you're into country music, check her out.

Hey everyone. I know I haven't been on here much (if at all) for the past couple months, but just wanted to say the BRP is still on for Oct 18th. I will make contact with the Mt. Mitchell restaurant soon to see if anything needs to be done prior to our arrival. I will admit, I'm a bit anxious about going there after reading some recent reviews; they were either a homerun or a strike-out.

At any rate, I don't see any reason to make significant changes to the itinerary I posted up back in May; possibly might make some minor ones, though, so I will make everyone aware of any changes.

Also, for those that plan to stay overnight Fri and/or Sat night, give me an idea of what type of stuff you like to do when visiting a new place and I'll see if I can find a match for your tastes.

Sorry I went hibernating....will try to be on here more frequently.

Maineiac: Asheville is a 2h 15m drive from the Charlotte airport....

I'm still a go, already off work. Should be up mid afternoon Friday if all goes according to plan.

Maineiac: I'll be coming directly past the Charlotte airport Friday if you fly in and don't rent a car. It wouldn't be a big deal to swing in and pick you up if need be.

30 days out bump....

Post up if you are or are thinking about coming out for this. I will start keeping a head count as of now.

Also, if you're staying over Friday and/or Saturday night(s), lemme know if there's something in particular you'd like to do while in town.

Count me in.:banana::banana: I could handle some live rock music at a bar/club or hang out at a sports bar in the area. I don't know yet if I'll be flying solo this time or not on this trip.

I'm there.

I'll be coming into town Friday, should get there mid-afternoon, and I'll be heading out Sunday morning sometime. I'm going to a concert Saturday night in downtown, but it doesn't start until 8 or 9.

Hello...sorry I haven't checked in before now...school has been keeping me busy.

The meet-up spot will be the I-market gas station (Ingles grocery store gas station) located at 1141 Tunnel Rd. This is at the intersection of Riceville Rd. In addition to this gas station there is a McDonalds right next to it; if you need food and gas before we hit the BRP, this will be your chance to get some. I would suggest having at least 1/2 tank, even though you'll burn less than that on our little jaunt up n down the BRP.

Right now it looks like the weather should be good, possibly a little mild with temps getting up near 70...I'm sure the outlook will change 5 times between now and then.

If you have any questions, post 'em up here or shoot me a PM; I'll be checking in on here every day for the next week or so.

Weather looks great for Saturday. Temp will be in lower 50s when we meet up in the morning. Skies will be mostly sunny. Temps on the BRP will range from 50-60 during the day; expect temps to be in lower 50s while we are at Mt. Mitchell, which isn't bad this time of year. Should have some really good views on tap!
