The rear differential is shot according to the mechanic.

This car has 75k miles on it and in fair cosmetic condition on the outside.

Driving straight is fine, when you turn the whole car lurches from the back.

The mechanic said bec it's a "posi" rear it will cost $800 + $600 parts and labor.

I paid only $200 for the car, so now I'll be into it for $2400 plus another $600 to fix a window motor, headlight, etc.

My question is, is it worth it, or should I sell it for $800 to the mechanic or invest the $2,000 or so and keep it?

I need a car now but I don't need a money pit!
The inside is gorgeous and most of the outside too!
Also I saw in another thread that a carbon fiber part should be used when replacing or repairing the rear.

Any and all advise is very appreciated.

For $200 you scored a marauder that only needs rear end work!? I would definitely keep it and fix it! throw some 4.10s gears in while you're at it!

Exactly what I was thinkin! Don't sell it to the mechanic. He knows he'd be practically stealin it from you, just like you practially stole it from the person you bought it from! :P I think the investment is definitely worth it, considering the kind of car you paid for/the work that you can immediately see that it needs.

Pictures please!

:awe: That is an amazing score for only $200 if all it needs is a rear gears & posi!!! Now's the time for some 4.10's or 4.30 gears and have some fun! Even if it didn't need gears, you would probably do this mod right away, anyway! :burnout:

I got this car for $200 and a little work, around 2 days of going to the dmv to get a duplicate title.
The rear end jerks when you turn but is smooth when the car is straight. When I say jerks I mean it is really bad, I feel like I'm head moshing at a metal concert. Still what is the diff in the gear ratios?

Please explain the benefit of upgrading the rear end.
It will also need around $1000 in body work to make in look sweet.

I didn't know there was a diff between the gears and the posi. I thought the type of setup was posi and all set ups have gears...
In the car fax report it shows that the transmission was rebuilt at one point. I'm just afraid of getting a money pit.

I will have the pictures later this week I hope. The car is overall nice but terrible compared to the show cars out there. The whole front right side is bashed from an old accident. I know the original owner and I believe he road it rough. I still think the engine has lots of power so that's a good thing.

I'm sorry to all for the late response. If there is anyone who did work on their marauder (specifically the 03 rear end part) please let me know if I can call you and ask you a few technical questions

It's a steal. If you can't get her road worthy for 3k part it out or sell as a whole. Will probably bring 2k on craigslist as is
