View Full Version : NEED A NEW FUEL PUMP: Recommendations?

Finally got around to diagnosing the reason my Marauder got taken home on a flat bed two weekends ago.
The fuel pump took a dump.
So my question is with my Trilogy set up and 3.0 pulley upgrade 5 years ago, are there any other Members here with similar set ups that have swapped out their fuel pump and if so what have you gone with? Stock, OEM? Or an upgraded one? I am thinking about an upgraded one so it won't have to work as hard with the Trilogy.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Check out my recent posting on Thought I had a bad fuel pump - Wrong.
The tow truck driver turned my acc on an off about 7 times till he heard the fuel pump whine, then she started right up and has run great ever since.
He has the same issue off and on with his 4.6 liter Mustang.

At your level a Walbro GSS342 is a perfect replacement.

This is smoke and mirrors voodoo garbage, it is not good advice, especially since the OP is S/C and cannot afford to go lean because of a failed pump.

One more question. Does the tank need to be dropped or can it be wiggled out by sliding the exhaust over and letting the rear end hang down to allow for clearance?
Thank you.

Just make sure you have less than a 1/2 a tank before removing the hat. You won't need to drop the tank, just maneuver the fuel pump out after it's been unbolted.

Thanks for the excellent advise. :)
My mechanic agrees with you.
I just ordered an Aeromotive 340 High performance fuel pump. :banana2:

Aeromotive 340
Is the Aeromotive 340 a good choice for my MM if I do not have a Super Charger?
Will I need to order anything extra to connect the module to my stock Motorcraft assembly?
Thanks for the information

Not sure if it is a good upgrade unless you have a demand for more fuel. I picked one up even though being NA still my new motor is 11:1 CR so I'll need a little more fuel and my stock fuel pump has well over 200k miles on it. If you plan on being supercharged soon then yes it's a good unit, if not then just roll with the stock fuel pump.
From what I have read and others have said it's basically a direct replacement, nothing really to modify.

Strange thing. A stock Ford fuel pump is @$500. The high performance 340 Stealth is only @ $150. What's the down side, if any?

Ok. So the tank doesn't need to be dropped. Where is the electrical connection for those who have done the swap?
Follow the wire from underneath or look in the trunk?
Sorry for all the questions but trying to have a pretty good idea before I start.
Thank you.

Just to follow up.
I put in a Focus SVT pump. As in just replaced the pump. Not the whole sender. This was Lidio's recommendation and I trust him without question so this is what I did. A very reasonable swap price and time wise.
She is back onthe road and running like a champ.
Cheers.

AEM's new 320's are awesome.
These seem to be a great deal. Just read they support lots of HP and are much more affordable than the 340s. I'll have look into these more closely. Probably as close as it gets to plug and play.
Are many folks here using these?

The fuel pump died on Sunday. Left me stranded a mile from home. :(
Had MM towed to my mechanic.
Had my mechanic install an Aeromotive 340 Stealth yesterday.
Problem is now solved. Thanks Marty O. (AKA MO's) :) :)

First things first, Urban Dictionary says:
cool beans
A slang term that actually began it's use in the late 60's/early 70's. Popularized by the pop culture of the time. Used to describe something very favorable or pleasing. Great. Very nice.
Example:
Cheech: Hey man, look at this car made out of weed!
Chong: Oh cool beans, man!
We should be in Vegas in the fall. Mizz MO wants to take our second honeymoon there. We got married in Vegas 5 years ago.

No downside... the 340 pump is better and cheaper than the stock pump.

Our son graduated law school at UNLV - Boyd School of Law in May. He is studying for the Nevada Bar right now.
Let me know when you finalize your Vegas plans. Perhaps we can treat you and your wife to lunch or dinner.
My wife and I make the trip from Fresno, CA to visit our son about every couple months. We will be seeing Book of Mormon on July 5th at the Las Vegas Smith Center.

I can tell you this, the tuner here sticks them in a lot of cars and there is nothing but smiles. Specially from the few folks that had issues with 340's.

In understand that one of the LDS Churches in New York took out an advertisement in the Book of Mormon program on Broadway.
"If you liked the play, you will love the Book." :)

Aeromotive Stealth 340 is running great so far. My MM seems to have more get up and go. No more pinging when I stomp on the accelerator.
Loved The Book of Mormon. American History and Theology combined with the satire of Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
Three adds in the program to the effect that The Book is always better than the play. Also if you liked the play, you will Love the Book.
It gives me a much better understanding and appreciation for my friends and neighbors who belong to the LDS Church. :)

As a follow up, I put a Motorcraft PFS-204 in my car. It was a total drop in, with the exception that the Focus pump doesn't have a hose barb on the output, since its designed for an O ring. Got mine back on the road for $100 less than the stock Motorcraft PFS-205.
