Hey Guys , I Have A Problem and cant figure it out .. My transmission starts acting funny when its hot outside or when Im sitting in traffic for a while. From take off it feels like my car is taking off in 2nd gear as if it doesnt have any power, but once my car starts cooling down the power starts coming back. My temp gauge is normal. I dont have a Tranny Temp Gauge . I Had the tranny flushed thinking it might correct it , i also added another tranny cooler to it , I had my Torque Converter Replaced 3 yrs ago and also did the J-Mod and still no luck.. btw i have an 03 MM

Did you install the other trans cooler in-line before or after the factory trans cooler?

its mounted behind the grille, does it make a difference? just curious
The temp gauge will not move past normal until 224-228 degrees.

So where do I mount the Cooler? My Temp Gauge works fine tho. Will mounting my cooler in a different place make my tranny run cooler?

You have to mount the cooler after the factory cooler in regards of how you ran the tranny fluid lines. Where you mount the extra cooler is up to you, but behind the grill, infront of all the radiator stuff is a good spot. Get a scangauge2 and you can read what temp your tranny is at.

I was referring to engine temps lol.
An engine running too hot can give symptoms of a bad trans, since the pcm is programmed to pull timing and dump gobs of fuel.

I'd also use a scangauge or programmer to check the intake and coolant temps, if a sensor is bad your ECU could be retarding the timing like crazy. May not be a transmission at all.
Make sure the intake temps are below 150 and the coolant temp is around the 200 mark. If you get a crazy high reading on either, that could be the issue.

Next time it does this, manually shift the trans into 1st gear...report back if it truly downshifts or not...at least then you will know if its a trans issue or not.

ok The way I ran the the cooler was i took the sending line from the tranny to the stock cooler and than took the return line from the stock cooler into the secondary cooler and took that return line back to the tranny
I am going to get a lower tstat which one would be best considering i live in the sunshine state and i am going to change the stock tranny cooler for a f-150 one, Hopefully that will correct it.
i did the manual shifting thing when it acts up and its the same thing nothing changed but when i put it in reverse and backed up it was fine.
Today i was washing my car and i let it run for a little and it did it while the car was in park , but my fan kicks on fine I dont understand its still cooling. I checked the tranny dip stick no bubbles or anything but it did look a little over on the dip stick
Also I had my torque converter replaced 3 yrs ago and this started about 2yrs after i changed my torque converter. could it be a bad converter?

Changing out your cooler isnt the issue, the issue is that something is messed up. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it is what it is. You could buy a scangauge2, and hopefully pinpoint the issue to where you can possibly fix it yourself, or take it to a shop and have them do it.
As for a thermostat, you could get this 180° for the same price as a stock temp thermostat:http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/21/azujajap.jpg or you can get a reich*sp* 170° thermostat, for 3 times the price and get a tune specially made to reap the minimal benefits.

Im thinking maybe my stock cooler is clooged or something.. I Dont think Its flowing thru. Does the stock tranny cooler have a filter on the side of it? Ive seen this piece on the side of the cooler what is that?
I rather start small before spending ridiculous amounts of money

Ive seen this piece on the side of the cooler what is that?Without seeing exactly what you're referring to I can't be positive, but the cooler has a thermostatic bypass built onto the side of it. It's to let the ATF warm up quicker in cold climates. Once the ATF reaches temp, it's allowed to circulate through the cooler.

^Correct
This is why you hook up the aftermarket trans cooler in-line AFTER the stock trans cooler.
BLACKBEAST, do you know what transmission cooler you installed or had installed? Did the issue come up after you had the transmission flushed or you did the flush after you started noticing the issue?

I hooked up the the cooler AFTER the stock one, " i took the sending line from the tranny to the stock cooler and than took the return line from the stock cooler into the secondary cooler and took that return line back to the tranny"
I had bought an autozone heavy duty cooler.. But this has been going on before the secondary cooler and before the flush , i did these things to see if it would help the situation .. I think it could be the thermostatic bypass on the stock cooler. It might be clogged or bad because it only gets better when the car is being driven verses stopped at the light or traffic with all the heat around. Today I will be buying another cooler and a t-stat to replace the stock cooler
