Some want to know, others don't. If you are not interested DO NOT COMMENT! This is a documentary of the repair process on Dom's car. I'll post up any and all findings here. You are welcome to offer suggestions but refrain from snide comments.

Dom got here Thursday afternoon and got her unloaded. We then fired it up...no noise at all. So I let it come all the way up to full temp....no noise...took a 5-7 mile run around the block...no noise...stopped dead in front of my shop, to the floor through 2 gears...no noise. However, at about 3500 rpms or so it falls on its face power wise... oil pressure after the run was about 25 at idle in gear. Next step will be to do a compression test, fuel pressure test, coil (ohms) test. We are also going to unhook the car's oil pressure gauge (real one) and instal our known good test gauge.

Interested in hearing about the oil psi. Mine has always read 25 at idle and 40-50 while cruising. Do notice once the water temp gets over 190 the oil pressure likes to go down more even with more throttle.

Not trying to hijack thread but did his car do this also?

Yes it did, all cars do. That is why I let the car idle and come up to full temp before I drove it. Oil gets thinner with higher temps, many times I have seen engines hammer like crazy when hot but not make a sound when cold.

Mine has always read 25 at idle and 40-50 while cruising. That is typical for the 4V engine. Both mine and Mary's are the same.


Oil gets thinner with higher tempsExactly. Many people don't understand this and it's the reason Ford puts fake oil pressure gauges in its cars, so the clueless won't see the major pressure swings between a cold start and hot idle.

Would an oil change with a known weight and viscosity, and a new filter be helpful?

Not yet, Dom got the car here last week. My schedule is packed so we can't get to it till next week. We are going to diagnose the actual issue BEFORE we swap...

I think that it has further defined the character of a few people, good for a few not so good for one. Seems as though the fan club is losing members.
