Not a good Memorial Day...

My Dad called me a couple hours ago to tell me my grandmother (his mother) had passed away this morning. She was 98. She developed Alzheimer's about 8 years ago. The last time I visited her was 3 years ago (the first time I had seen her since the Alzheimer's set in) and I could tell she had no idea who I was.

Although I am sad that she is gone, I am glad that I had the opportunity to visit her quite a few times while I was stationed in Indiana in the early 90s. She lived in northern Wisconsin, which was an 11 hour drive from where I was stationed at. Being born and raised in NC, I did not get to see her much growing up. She was truly a remarkable woman and was very active well into her 80s and could probably kick my butt without working up a sweat.

Sorry for your family's loss, it is a terrible disease for someone or there family to go through. I lost both my grandfathers to Alzheimer's and I spent the day talking to my cousin yesterday as his Mother has it and his family is dealing with it day by day
