My A/C is warning up when I stop at red lights, or sit at an idle. It seems to do it in the auto position. So I tried it in the Max Air position, it seemed to only warn slightly. I put a thermometer in the vent, it would go down to 42 degrees whall driving, but go as high as 60 degrees at idle in auto. When I put it on Max the temp started dropping. I do have under drive pullies but I idled it up with my tuner. The control head is new with O-ring upgrade, and the blower works as it should. Any Ideas no my problem?

When is the last time its been charged? sounds like you may have a leak, or the infamous rotting accumalator.

I am interested in this thread. I am also thinking my AC is getting a bit weak. I replaced the accumulator and condenser and had it recharged. I am pretty sure it doesn't leak.
I wonder if the compressor is getting weak?

As far as I know the A/C has never been charged. But I still come back to it's 42 degrees at the vents going down the road.

You need to put a set of gauges on it and see what the pressures are doing at idle and at cruise.
Also, are you sure the radiator fan is operating correctly?

Check if there is debris clogging the condensor.

What are the pressures supposed to be. I'm not sure about the fan, but I'm not overheating at a standstill.
Check if there is debris clogging the condensor.
I will check that tomorrow.
My accumulator just gave up the ghost. Leaves a nice puddle when I park it. 36 at Napa
The engine cooling fan not working properly is a possibility as is a condenser that is partially plugged.
The other problem that is a good possibility is a failing clutch. Sometimes when they age they can overheat and not have enough power to lock the clutch. Get some speed up and the air flow will be enough to cool it down so it re-ingages. The quick test is to set it on max and wait until it starts to get cool. Then open the hood and look and listen to the clutch. You should see and hear it engage and disengage every so often. If it doesn't engage for a long period of time then the clutch is bad. The fan should be running constantly.
If the system is low on refrigerant then the clutch will turn on and then cycle off and then back on every couple of seconds.

I just had to get to get my system refilled. I had it checked for leaks etc during the charging service... They found no leaks... However the charge was low & need to be re-charged...
I wonder if a really small leak in accum could have been the culprit...?

Check the clutch gap......remove a shim to reduce the gap!!
I have removed both shims from the Marauder and had one removed from my old CV.....fixed erratic cooling by reducing clutch slippage??
0.005" is what I have now.....it was as much as 0.018"!!:argue:
Also check Clutch Relay in the power box under the hood......mine was old and the clutch engagement became very erratic!!!:mad2: To test it just swap it with the Horn Relay!!
Good Luck!!
