Isn't that her job?

...I mean, I use the hottest cycle, detergent and an extra rinse. Then let drip dry - no dryer action, causes lint.

Don't ever use any type of fabric softener or dryer sheets. Yes, mine get put in the dryer, haven't seen any extra lint.

Not sure it's the best, but here is what I do:

After use all towels go into a laundry hamper until a sufficient supply for a full load accumulates.

I mix Optimum power clean and hot water in a 5 gallon bucket and soak the towels for at least a full day.

I remove the towels one at a time, inspect each one and hand scrub any with stains then into the washing machine.

In the washer I set the machine for a full cycle with hot water and a soak cycle. I don't add any soap as all I want to do is remove excess soak solution and stains.

Next I set the machine for a full cycle, hot water and soak cycle, I add Pinnacle microfiber cleaner and let it run.

For rinsing I use a separate cycle where I add a cup of white vinegar in the initial cycle instead of soap. Then a separate and final cycle, adding nothing, as a final rinse.

Into the dryer at it's lowest setting, fold and store.

I also just throw mine in the washer, normal liquid detergent (preferably with no dyes or scents), hot cycle with other similar laundry, then tumble dry in the dryer on low heat. Doesn't take long to dry due to the properties of microfiber. They come out with zero spots and zero residue from whatever I used on them. Just my two cents.

To eliminate any possibility of chemicals getting washed on your clothes -1st rinse with hot water, 2nd soak in Dawn in sink or bucket, 3rd rinse, 4th wash with Wisk, 5th second rinse.
If there is any odor of chemicals wash again plus pine oil and 2nd rinse.

I too pretreat with the Optimum Power Clean..great stuff and better for this than my other APCs for some reason.

I wash with "MF detergents" because they simply work best for me, but others get by just fine with either regular laundry detergents or Charlie's. Gotta find what works best for your particular situation if you want to try saving $ instead of just going with the pricey stuff like Micro-Restore or the Chemical Guys version (I buy what's on sale when a big savings is offered).

Regarding Dawn, I've done OK with that too, but I have to work at it a bit to get the MFs the way I want them ("grabby", not "fabric softened"-like) after using it. Some have suggested that (blue) Dawn has some conditioners in it to make it lady's hands/baby duck-friendly. Be careful using Dawn in HE washers, the suds can get, uhm....dramatic.

I buy new in bulk. If they ever get remotely close to the floor, they are then considered shop rags. Rags are cheap, paint is not.

Pre-treat soak with simple green for a day or so in a five gallon bucket, rinse with garden hose and then wash with Woolite.

For the exterior painted surfaces I only use USA made 100% cotton.

When drying them in the dryer they do pick up residual lint that has collected inside the dryers blower housing and other internal air flow areas. I was putting mine in the dryer and always had lint and after I stopped I have no more lint. I HATE LINT ON GLASS

That right there. I got tired of high end microfibers marring my finish.

Check out the Zaino Border Free towels. awesome.....

Im with bob, sams club or Costco has 30 towels for around $15. They get dirty, i throw them in the washer sometimes, but usually ill just hang them on the bottle of cleaner i used with them. Use them 2-3 times, then use them as shop rags. My paint is 164,000 miles old, no need for ultra cool expensive microfiber rags. Cheap microfiber rags fit the bill for me, and it still looks good.

What's the best way to wash microfiber towels that have wax, qd spray and stuff like that on them ?

When mine get dirty they are relegated to wheel duty ... then wheel well duty. When they reach the semi-filthy state, I throw them away and do not wash them. I have enough new ones in my trunk organizer to last 3-4 years.

Wash all your rags together with regular detergent, and NO fabric softener. Dry like normal with no dryer sheet. I had rags leave a haze and a residue because of using fabric softener. Not using a dryer sheet makes them attract the dust like a magnet.

Griots makes a special microfiber cleaner. I add 2-4 ounces to the dirty microfiber towels along with regular detergent and hot water. Towels come out clean.
