Can I use the existing clamps when i replace the stat or do I need new ones ?

Looks like i need three?

You really don't need to touch the clamps...the thermostat housing can be opened up without removing any of the hoses...just don't lose the o-ring...

Maybe i should clamp off the hoses so I don;t get a faceful?

That's the way some have done it...I just loosened the bolts holding the housing together until it started to leak, then let it drain into a clean catch-bucket...still made a mess...should have pinched off the hoses...

Question: have you already installed a chip (or flashed the ECM) and cooler plugs?

Plugs are in , Stat and Gears tomorrow along with the SCT tuner reflash. I expect that 'll wake up the beast a bit.

Driver's side, hanging about a foot below cowl, it's where three hoses meet in a metal casing which holds the stat.

I guess Nova Scotia has finally "hit the board " when one of my posts gets in the middle of the Todd and Marty party, you guys have made my day.

Some day I will get to meet you, hopefully sooner than later.

Hate to drag this thread back on topic... :) I was planning on draining my coolant system to change my stat. Can you really pinch the hoses enough to keep coolant from gushing all over the place?

You sure can. What I did was take 4 pieces of 1/4" wood lath about 5" long each. Bend the hoses and place the lath over the hoses. Clamp them off with large vice grips, but [U]DO NOT[U] clamp too tight, just enough to stop the flow otherwise you may damage the hoses. It work great...
