For some reason I think I heard 170 at some point, but I think that was for silver cars. I don't know of any documentation for them either. It can't be a lot and the VIN will start with "2MHHM" instead of "2MEHM" if yours is real.

I was wondering the same thing. It's vin coded if its a factory moon roof. But yet the certificates that we have to send them our vins could not put them on the certificates. I do not get it. They dropped the ball on that one.

One way or another I collected some info from this site (I may also have made some assumptions). Somehow I concluded there are 1,214 MMs with moon-roof as follows:
Silver Birch 336
Red 369
Black 509
When I was searching for a MM this last time, I was specifically looking for a Silver Birch with dark charcoal interior and a moon-roof. My estimate is there were less than 200 made, but we'll probably never know.

The VIN prefix in Ford parlance means it was a "incomplete" passenger vehicle because they were built without the headliners installed and sent out to a sub contractor to have the roofs (rooves? lol) installed.
Ford could figure it out by the VIN prefix and the engine code for the MM with the push of a few buttons.

Yeah, and looking back im glad i did end up with DC interior as the light flint looks terrible after a few years of use, and the dirt/discoloration shows like a sore thumb!

Plus light flint may look good on dark color cars, but not so much on a SB. We need the contrast.
Now I want to know more about your MM. Ill go revisit your madness thread to see the conclusion.

For sure. When I sought mine out it had to have one...

This is why I won't own another light colored interior...my LSC with bone interior has ALWAYS been a PITA!!!!!

You are correct. The trim/option breakout that came with the certificate from the Ford Performance Group (FPG) did not include the moonroof option (see below). Someone missed the boat on that one when this was all set-up. I am surprised that some of the 2004 MM owners did not bring this to the attention of FPG to get it corrected when they ordered their certificates. It should have been an easy "fix" using the 2MHHM VIN identifier.
I don't ever recall any numbers or even estimates of the number of moonroofs that were available with the 2004 MM. Your numbers above assume about 37.7% of the overall 2004 MMs got the moonroof. Seems like a "weird" random number to use. 1 out of 3 would have been 33.3%. Moreover, the 37.7% only applies to the total and the DTR. Silver and Blacks are different percentages in your numbers for some reason. Since we will probably never know unless someone asks .... it probably doesn't make too much difference anyway.
Here's how your numbers/estimates stacks up:
2004 DTR 369 of 980 = 37.7%
2004 SB 336 of 997 = 33.7%
2004 JPB 509 of 1237 = 41.1%
2004 Total 1214 of 3214 = 37.7%
Here is the 2004 color, trim & option breakdown from FPG .....

Almost all car companies contract out their sunroof / moonroof installs. For all intents and purposes they are installed "by the factory". Ford has always contracted with ASC American Sunroof Company.

My dtr that I bought brand new had a moon roof. I actually put a ASC moon roof on my 2003 Silver (as a dealer add-on) and I liked their moon roof alot better then Fords.
I once asked Steve B. about it and he said that due to budget and safety reasons they could not have the moon roof installed that they really wanted so they made due with the best one they could get ahold of. Gotta love Elena Ford! :)

I wonder who the two people (red/silver) were in the chart that ordered "standard audio?" Fleet sales (I did see a DTR in the FBI Garage when I was working there - it was a G-ride)? I wonder what standard audio was?

That was an aftermarket install. All Dark Blue Pearl MMs are 2003 and the moonroof option from the factory/dealer was not available until 2004. Those with factory/dealer moonroofs carry the "2MHHM" VIN. Your VIN starts with "2MEHM". I know of another Blue MM with a moonroof that was transplanted from Maryland to Myrtle Beach, SC and owned by JoanB (if she still has it).

According to the 2003 Breakout, there was one Blue MM that didn't get an audio system at all. Do the math. 328 produced. Audio Systems total 327. I don't think we have resolved EXACTLY how many Blues were made ... 328 or 327 ???

Look at the overhead console. If the switches are on the end, it's an aftermarket install.

What does the brand of moonroof have to do with safety?
Years ago I heard it wasn't the brand of moonroof, it was any moonroof.
Allegedly... I'm not going to verify... the cars had a 5-star crash rating but couldn't do it with a moonroof. FoMoCo veteod the moonroof option for '03 to preserve the 5-star rating.
Maybe?

FoMoCo veteod the moonroof option for '03 to preserve the 5-star rating.Sounds logical, but that doesn't explain why there was a moonroof option for '04, unless they didn't care about the crash rating then.

The ASC moonroof that I have has some different options then the Ford one. I can set mine to close automatically when I turn the key off -Ford's does not. Steve told me that Ford did not have this option due to safety concerns. If someone's hand was sticking out they would have no way to stop it thus creating a liability.
Plus the ASC moonroof is alot larger then the Ford one which might be a play on the safety crash ratings.

Short answer is No because the breakout sheets did not give that level of detail. That combo numbers 156 or less. My guess is somewhere around 50 based strictly on percents.

Thanks for the link - a good read.
I had the Signature Moonroof (successor to ASC?) installed in my car shortly after bringing it home earlier this spring - priceless. Same with my '05 Mustang shortly after buying it back in 2011. My '98 Mustang had the Hollandia powered spoiler moonroof. My first moon roof car was a '85 Dodge Lancer that had a pop up moon roof installed shortly after buying it because we were impressed with the moon roofed Lancer on the showroom floor.
My first experience with sunroofs/moonroofs was when employed by a local Ford/Honda dealer in Jax, FL during the early '70s. Ford had a regional office in the area at the time; our dealer handled all of the executive cars going back and forth from the regional office - at least half had powered sunroofs. I recall the glass moonroofs coming out not long after on the large Thunderbirds - have been impressed ever since.

I've never compared these units side to side (Signature unit installed this year) but read somewhere they are the same size as the factory units? Our switches are lit too which helps at night.
With the auto-close feature, if one doesn't want the roof to close when the wipers come on or the key is turned off one only has to depress the 'open' button once and the roof will fully reopen and stay there until the next KO/O cycle. No inside trim ring for the Signature units either, which I'm fine with.
Similar unit installed on my '05 Mustang back in 2011. Only differences are the Mustang unit is about half the size of the Marauder unit and only opens about 3/4 of the way due to the curvature of the roof. 2 years parts and labor and lifetime parts to the original owner. Mustang went in to the local auto trim shop (Signature dealer) last fall when the roof failed to open (loose plug). It was serviced, drain tubes checked at no charge.
Sadly, can't install one in my Ranger due to the body support construction in the roof area (destroy body rigidity). Otherwise, Ranger would have a moonroof too.

Well, to be fair, the folks over at MotorCity Marauders did a lot of legwork to even make the certificates possible. Ford was not asked about the moonroof option, so it wasn't included.
So the nice people/enthusiasts who organized and made those certificates possible were human. It wasn't Ford.
But I have one of the Silver/Light Flint/Moonroof and I also heard about the 170 number.
