So I traded my MM in earlier this week - at 125k I was spending way too much money keeping it running and on gas during my long trips, so it was time for it to go.

I want to send a HUGE thank you out to everyone in this community - you've saved my bacon a couple of times with timely repairs (EATC, LCM etc) that I would've had to pay someone to do otherwise. So thank you, and keep on motorin'!

What did you trade it in on? And it better not have been a Prius....

Hahah, no, i got a 2012 focus, with all the bells and whistles, the damn thing even parks itself (seriously, it does!)

I'll save about $150 in gas alone on my frequent trips down south, so that will be nice.

But I sure am going to miss the roar of the V8, and the looks I'd get occasionally...

Ha, Ha, Ha ... your "so long and thanks for the fish message" was the same one that Logan used (founder and prior owner of the MM.Net site) when he departed back in October 2006 >>>>>> http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=30736&highlight=fish

For a minute there ... I thought he was back just to sign out again !! ;)

Yes I caught the fish message right away. Well anyway stop in for time to time and bring your focus to Carlisle, Pa in June of 2015 and come hang with us!

Gotta do what you gotta do, but a couple of questions...was the Marauder paid for??? You said you will be saving $150 in gas. Is the Focus paid for. If not then won't you be paying more on car payment then you will be saving on gas and repairs??? Just curious???

some quick math:

MM payment: 180/mo
repairs (12mo rolling avg): 220/mo
total: 400/mo

focus payment: 300
repairs: 0
total: 300

insurance is pretty much a wash. On my 2500 mile trips down south, I'll be getting 38hwy mileage, saving about 150 per trip right there.

So yeah, financially it makes sense, too. Sentimentally, it doesn't though :(

Edit: it's also anxiety related too, I was constantly wondering what was going to break next? Rear end was making noises, so that was going to need to get looked at, the suspension pump needed to be replaced, etc etc

You probably did the right thing with the Marauder being O-L-D but be careful on your long trips in that little car!:(

Thank you :)

I used to do the trips in a Miata, the Focus is huge compared to that!

Funny Focus/Marauder story . . .

I bought a 2012 Focus Titanium with 18" wheels and handling package nearly two years ago. Pretty good car for an econobox. In fact, it rode and handled better than my 100K mile Marauder !!

That harsh reality really bothered me. So a rebuilt the Marauder suspension with Ford, Metco, Addco and Penske. Then I tuned the shocks, eliminated sway bar and bump stop binding. And tuned the shocks some more.

Now when I drive that Focus it doesn't feel so good in comparison to the Marauder. As it should. :D
