View Full Version : Marauder Withdrawal - I'm driving a rental

My baby's in the shop for the next two days. I rented a "premium" car, which in Alamo speak is a 2004 Buick Lesabre Limited. I actually owned a Lesabre once, back in the early 80's. This car is a lot nicer. But, jeez, step on the accelerator and you realize you aint in Kansas any more, Dorothy. I can feel my arteries hardening when I drive this car.

Okay, I'll admit it. It cheeses me that I own a performance car with a ersatz oil pressure gage, when, in my rental car, you can push a button and get a real-time digital oil pressure reading.:mad2:

Ahh, I just might go slip into a pair of Sans-a-belt slacks and take my temporary Luv Boat out for a cruise around the neighborhood...

Three weeks out of any month, my MM drives just fine...deal with it.

The question to ask here, is while the LeSabre has a digital oil pressure readout, does the LeSabre have a pulse pounding 32 valve quadcam V8? Of course, that won't help you deal with your withdrawal issues...........

Maybe you can start recreating the musical symphony this motor makes under WOT acceleration! :)

Didn't you get some coupons for "Bill Knapps" or "Sign of the Beefeater" with that Buick?

Mine's in the shop for three days (Kook's install) and I'm driving a bright blue rental Daewoo Lanos...Remember Donny- In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king. :P

While mine is down, I'm the temporary driver of the Seoul Screamer better known as a (an) Hundai Elantra. It's an offish greenish with a somewhat pinkish interior complete with about a gallon of the self serve car wash interior freshener. Oh well, I needed to loose some weight anyway, this thing makes my belly ill.

Last month I hit a deer, was told I sould be without MM for a few days turned out to be two weeks .I was so lonely I had to go visit a couple of times (at body shop) didn't help too much seeing her smacked up. I cant tell how much fun this car and this site brings me! I know when you guy's get your babie back you'll be marauden with a smile;)

Being without the MM is always sad, but I'll always have a soft spot for LeSabres, since it was my first car...a '72 4 door, green with vinyl and a 455 under the hood. This car was exceptionaly clean once I got hold of it, even though a bit ugly:). A little tweaking with the few "performance" parts available (junk yard finds taken from GSX's) for those cars in the early 80's and few cars could keep up with me. Hence my start with big muscle sedans that lead me to my beloved MM.

MChick,
Completely understandable. You should plead "mechanical adaptation" because of the squishy pedal syndrome. I have the same problem switching from my MM to the E-150 Conversion van --- I just keep mashing the pedal trying to get it to go somewhere, anywhere. Good luck on settling the ticket....

I tried convincing the officer that I had just rented this truck and I hadn't had time to get used to it!! He didn't want to hear it:( !!
It's funny, (well sorta).....when I saw him, he was headed the other direction from me.....I saw him hit the blue lights and I said "get em' boys!!"....like I normally do.....I didn't even think he was after me!!! Until.....I looked in my rear view mirror and saw him!!! Ahhhhhhhh!...he came over his PA and told me to pull over!! I truly didn't realize that I was going that fast.....Oh well...such is life!!

Sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you!! Ouch Kathy, how much did it cost you? Next time leave those Silverados alone, get a FORD.

Haven't bothered calling to see how much the fine is! I think it will turn my stomach! I think I'll actually go to court on this one. Maybe the judge will listen to my rental car story and give me a break!!

The ONLY FORD they had was a FOCUS.....and all I could say is NO WAY!!
Oh, no....that just ain't gonna work.....got anything bigger, uh, safer even???
So, that's how I ended up with the Silverado!

You have to estimate about 10 mph for every foot of height over the MM seat level ... the sensation of speed is much less when you are sitting up 4 feet in the air.

Donny, while my MM was in the body shop (5 weeks!!) my rental was an '04 Monte Carlo. It performed like a car but it was very boring. And, nowhere near the comfort, missing many of the ammenities and ...and....

Anyway, I understand exactly what you mean. I have been back in the saddle for five days now and it is fantastic. I had forgotten about the steering wheel buttons for the radio and AC system.

You'll live...try to think about driving your MM while you drive the Buick!

Absotively, tell 'em I sent you. Not sure that you will get much sympathy from the judge -- but what the heck -- 30 days ain't really that long.

Absolutely--Use what he says here ...hey..the judge isn't going to verify it --but it makes "quick" sence--thats all he is interested in if it appears to be factual..then it must be...especially if late in the day or just before lunch..
(just ask Martyo) ...and for add-ons---go get some signed statements from those working on your car that your not familiar with that "thing" your driving and in fact is WAS a RENTAL and put that together with the above statement--Judge gotta say - Dismissed----You know the phrase--"Behold the turtle--he only gets ahead if he sticks his neck out"---Go for it!!!!......Good luck.......Tom

Believe ME... I kntow the feeling of having a damage MM.....Good luck..........TomThank You Tom, It took me a while (about a week) to figure out how to respond to your reply :( Good thing I "m better with car's than computers ;) I didn't even look back at the deer as it passed in front of me I only clipped his rear quarter with my left front . If he was one step faster he would have only been creamed by the truck going the other way.:alone: Sorry Bambie!!. I saw the darn thing only 2 miliseconds before the impact and the poor thing careened into a large contractors truck headed the opposite direction . My co-workers had a field day with me about this . Auto Sales tough croud:help: .BTW the only reason I didn't get the road kill is there are no lights or shoulders to speak of .I was concerned for safety (MINE) and where would I carry it? To be honest I was so shook up, I took it as a sign . Not to take things for granted . Any way they(body shop ) fixed the MM ok a little over spray on hood swirl marks on top of bumper cover .But I did notice a little wheel shake above 60 Mph. To narrow down my origin closer than north america I live in Barrington Il. about 50 mi. northwest of Chicago on the Fox river and I love MM's and Mercury Marauder.net:lol:
