Anybody have any knowledge or experience on theses cars? Found one my daughter likes. Has 110,000 for $1500. Rough but I think a good start for a custom job for her...

When I was in college my girlfriend bought one new.
:hmmm:
Chevette front suspension....
'Iron Duke' 4 banger.....(because the aluminum Vega motor was a total POS)
No room inside....
No power....
Crappy brakes....
3.5 Qts of oil.....
I'd pass on that 'bargain'.
BTW: Does 'Fiero' mean fire?!

The V6 in these cars - not a lot made - were pretty fast,
If you have the time I'm sure it could be a nice little car but they are not high scores for surviving collisions.
Not sure I would get one for my daughter's first car but I'm prejudiced - I got my daughter an '04 CV LX Sport for her first car in '08. She still has it!

No way i would put my kid in a death trap like that, it sits too low to the gound, imagine someone in a Fiero getting T boned buy an suv!
Not to mention the iron duke 4 cylinder had problems overheating, several came thru the dealership that had overheated, and warped the head beyond repair, and all the heads at the salvage yards had the same problem,a warped head.

:run:
Like many American cars from the 70s, 80s and 90s just when the manufacturer figured it out they stopped making them. I wouldn't touch an 84. The 88s were ok, but I agree there are so many newer, better cars out there - safety first and reliability as important.
I bought my daughter a 70 Cutlass SX, relatively rare car needs engine work. I just can't get myself to spend the money to fix it up for her when it really is a death trap - no ABS, no air bags, no shoulder-belts, no crumble zones, horrible side impact protection - and no cup holders :D (for sale by the way)

This body style was the Favorite for kit car builders to build Testarosas ,lamborginis and a few others Ferarri makes ,.. the last year was the best year [upgrade from chevette front end parts ] also the v6 was the popular power plant to go>>: .these were popular movie props because they were crashable ,a friend of mine had 4 of these in various models ,the 360 mod Ferarri was close to the real thing except it was a few inches shorter. 35's and 40's tires, fit the rears with adaptors. An outfit in Virginia years ago sold the Kits. / Have Fun, in stock trim they look Cool..

I was in the Army at Fort Bragg when those turds first hit the streets. I remember well a magazine article making sport of Pontiac's long time mantra of "We Build Excitement". The magazine article rephrased it to Pontiac "'We Build Excrement" thanks in part to the Fiero.
I'm not surprised a young girl is taking a fancy to it...it was a "Chick Car" from hello , as is the last rendition of Pontiac two seaters the Solstice. The Solstice being much better powered and optioned , as if it matters?
Do your daughter a favor....let her read some research on these cars , threaten her with having to keep it in repair , maybe she'll change her tune to both of your satisfactions.

I was able to covertly convince her she didn't want this car...she wants cute and Camaro/Firebirdish kinda car...we were able to snag her a 99 Malibu dark blue pretty cheap from someone needing a bigger car...brought it home today and drove it around. Other than a few minor and normal things I think its' a good first car. Small enough for her and big enough to provide protection...

Good Job Pappa!!!!
You just saved you both a world of longterm grief and expense.
I hope the Chevy treats her well and provides all the safety I hope she never remotely needs.

Thanks!!! It's hard to maneuver a female teen without them knowing cause your just trying to help...almost had her in a nice GMQ cause she liked the moving pedals, but ultimately didn't like the size...The dependability is now my major concern, as with any used car...tomorrow will be oil, filter, plugs, brakes and or rotors...next week it goes to my mech to get the fuel gauge checked out...does not work...but we knew that before we bought it...then radiator flush tranny fluid change and filter...well you can guess the rest...:)

I know you already dodged this bullet but a friend at work bought a Fiero to rescue. So far he has had to replace the rear frame, they are famous for rusting, exhaust manifold, again rust and recently the shifter assembly which is out of production so he is trying to find one used. This was a Florida car too so one up north is probably hiding even more problems.

Among other things with that Fiero, I was worried about the hidden rust...only 110,000, but the car is still 30+ years aged...I like the last years but not for my daughter to drive with, like people mentioned, bigger things on the road...we would have vetoed it when talking didn't work...

The latter Fiero GTs are great cars that are begging for an LS4 or Northstar V8 swap in the future. The Fiero is also an exceptionally safe car to drive from a crash standpoint, I believe it was the second safest car during its run. The frame was reinforced and built solid.

When I test-drove one, I asked the guy "If the engine is in the back, what's this HUGE hump between the seats ?" Answer : The Gas Tank.
Next question : "The spot for the donut spare is tight - if you have to use it, where do you put a full-size flat tire ?" Answer : On The Passenger Seat.
"What if you have a passenger ?" On Her Lap, I Guess . . . .
Wound up buying a Mustang ;)

I never even thought about this...I hated the placement of the spare...And didn't know about the gas tank...my like for these cars just went down significantly...
