bought the car, front driver window would not go up, intermittently. From full down position.
Every time I played with the switch a few times, it would go up.
Changed the switch yesterday. window up/down several times. yeah!
Left it down overnight and drove to work today = would not go up.
After 10 minutes trying and with the car off, key on - it went up.
After work, like a dumbass, I hit the express down button when closing the door. Would not go up. I tried the switch for 25 minutes driving home = nothing but dim the dash lights when I hit 'up'.
Get home, car off, key on - it starts to go up! I get mostly up, try down - won't go down? go up another inch, won't go down - then won't go up again. last try, it went up all the way.
I notice now that when I start the car, my 4 window buttons are not lit up like the passenger side are?
bad switch again?
needs a motor? common?

if its anything like mine. if it goes down no problem its probably not grabbing properly on the way up which is why its getting stuck. should probably crack that door open and see whats going on inside.

If the lights dim when actuating a button the electrical circuit is working. The internal circuit breaker in the motor is opening because the motor encountered too much drag while trying to turn. The internal breaker will open after about 1-2 seconds of no movement from the motor while the switch is pushed. The window regulator is going bad. It's probabaly getting loose enough inside to hang up intermittantly. Only solution is a new regulator. Should be able to re-use the motor.
What works to get the window moving again to smack the door panel just below the arm rest while repeatedly pushing the button, until you can get a new regulator.

Great explanation, thanks!
I saw the installation instructions on RockAuto - special rivets, whole thing apart = yup, that's what will be wrong :depress:
I have to put my old switch in to see if the buttons light up with the key - that annoys me also.
My heated seat switch doesn't light, so I'll be spending a day inside that door. All new motor too - not going back in later!
I replace the rivets with short 5/16" bolts and locknuts. Hell with those rivets

Nice.
So, after drilling out the old rivets, no special tools required for installation?
Rock has regulator and motor for 60 bucks....

After I shattered a customers window I'll never drill out those rivets again.
Use a punch to remove the center shaft out of the rivet.
Using a pair of dykes break off the 3 ears of the rivet.
Pry out the rivet.
