Wow, that sure was a blast from the past! That was dad's company car back in the late 70's. His previous company car was a Buick Electra 225. THAT was a barge. I remember the Merc just floating down the road to various locales in Wisconsin during hockey season and there was enough room in the back seat for me to get all of my goalie gear on. Good thing, because we were always running late. :D

On man!!!!! When I was 19-20 a 78 coupe was on a car lot triple cream yellow with only 22,000 miles on it. The only thing wrong with it was th molding between the tailights had several crack going from top to bottom...it was nothing...REALLY wanted that car...they were asking $10,000 for it then...@ 1992...my Dad talked me out of it saying it was to expensive...I had just bought my Mark V so I tthought they would be an awesome combo...first time I was exposed to this car was in 3rd grade, Pastor had a triple green one he used for giving out communion to people at home etc... When I peaked in one day at recess when the garage was open I was hooked...

I traded in my 1970 Canadian Royal Mounted Police car for it My 1970 was 1 of 10 special-built 4 dr Broghams built for them. It had a 429 Police Special ---438 rear wheel hp out of the factory. it had a 11:1 compression ratio and ran on 103 octane fuel--Sonoco made it back then. It had a top speed in the 150 range and could cruise for hours at 100+. My college room mate was running Merc's special development sales dept at the time and , knowing my need for speed, when one of the cars developed tranny trouble and was refused by the Canadian gov't . They threw another high perf tranny in it and I got it--drove it 95,000 miles . Ahhh, but I digress, we were talking about the '78 Brougham-- mine was deep red with matching vinyl top and appears to have had the same accessories as this one. I think it had a 350 Windsor in it. It was a big car but with proper handling, it could hold it's own in any bunch. Drove it 90,000 and sold it and bought an '84 . I now have had 11 big Mercs. I brought home a Marauder X-100 with the 429, but Mama said with 4 kids it wasn't going to work. Gotta listen to the Little Woman---she's 5'1" Scottish red headed Air Force Nurse--you listen:D The '78 was a great car and I loved it---Marty, you made my day---the Old Man Story Teller, Maury
