View Full Version : How much is too much for a Marauder with low miles?

I am looking to get back in the drivers seat of a Marauder, however I have no idea what the actual values are anymore. I found a SB 2004 with 15k miles, the dealer is asking 21,900, which seems high to me. What is a fair price? It looks like new, but obviously I would like to find a fair price for the seller and myself.

I have seen cars with 80K that are in better shape than cars w/ 12k.

Back in 2007, I paid $21,000 for mine with 6300 miles.
I just sold it two weeks ago with 31,300 miles for almost $14,000.

I agree, but I like the idea of a car with lower miles. Not this one in particular, but one that has as few owners as possible, garaged and cared for. And no rust since I live in a town that salts the roads on days that don't need it, not that I would drive a Marauder in the winter.

You want Silver right Corey? There is one on here that is Black with like 42K in Illinois for $14k

Mark,
I had a SB 2003 and there is something about that silver that I like more than the black. Maybe its the rarity of the color compared to the more common black Marauders. I think the main draw for me is that I just miss my old car and want to recapture that feeling. I appreciate the heads up about the black 40k car.

I understand about the silver, thats why i have it..There is also a 30k miles or less? in Nj for like $16,900..It's DTR. I think 21,900 is a little high for it even though 15k miles..realistically..$18-20k IMO..It might be hard to finance that old of a car too, so be aware..they might want an appraisal

I think that it is a little high at 21,900. I was thinking about 17k for a realistic number, maybe up to 18 if I fall in love. I don't have o worry about financing, since I would be paying cash. I just assumed that for a car this old it would be very hard to get a loan.

$22K is high, but they'll take less. If you want a low mile MM your choices are few. If you want a SB then your choices are even more limited. Given this, If the car you found is to your liking, then consider working out the best deal you can and enjoy the ride. Otherwise, take your time searching for the right car.

I agree with what you said, I don't think that there are too many more SB Marauders out there with low mileage like this one. The big question is how much less will they take for the car? It is a moonroof car, that is a big plus to me personally.

That's even more rare. Dark charcoal?
I would guess they'd accept 2K less with some good bargaining. It all comes down to demand. If the car sits there for weeks you'll get a good deal. If others are calling and expressing interest you may not.
Ask them how they arrived at their price. Show them KBB and other comparables. Is there something else they can throw in that you'd consider of value? Spoiler? The end of the month maybe a good time to close on the deal. Just my 2 cents.
From another thread:
One way or another I collected some info from this site (I may also have made some assumptions). Somehow I concluded there are 1,214 MMs with moon-roof as follows:
Silver Birch 336
Red 369
Black 509
When I was searching for a MM this last time, I was specifically looking for a Silver Birch with dark charcoal interior and a moon-roof. My estimate is there were less than 200 made, but we'll probably never know.

It is a dark charcoal interior. The pictures of the car look great, but nothing beats looking at it in person.
You know that KBB lists this car with moon roof for about $17.8K, so yes, $21.9K is a bit much.
Yet we decry the fact that this rare car doesn't command the resale value we want because buyers are looking for a bargain. Here's to bargains, just not mine when it's time to sell.
Maybe I'll bequeath my S/C'd 04 SB w/moon roof to science.

All good advice Corey and since you have cash you have bargaining power. And you can always go up in your offer. Go look at it if able and let the cash talk and be firm and stand your ground if it is the car for you. Also it prolly has the priginal tires..10 years old. They should be replaced and htere are better choices out there than the stock BFG..That is $700 so you that as bargaining as well. I looked at the car you mentioned..It looks nice, a little dusty but should detail up nicely

Regards,
Same car in my area with 15,000 miles, moonroof, spoiler, and 6-CD changer in Good or Better condition from a dealer goes for $18,729 Suggested Retail Price and $18,121 Fair Market Value using the KBB pricing. This one might be $3,000 - $3,500 too high .... but it is only worth what someone is willing to pay. Low miles and Excellent condition may be hard to match elsewhere especially if you gotta have a Silver Birch with a Moonroof.
Ha, Ha Pat ... I've noticed that "Buy bargain low, Sell premium high" trend for quite a while. ;)
The good news is that it appears that we have reached the knee of the depreciation curve and that well cared for MMs are holding their value quite well now.

Everyone wants a deal when buying, and wants the world when selling. Pay what ever you are comfortable with.
If you want an original, no hit low mile car and plan on keeping it that way, buy the one described, if you are planning on DD it, look elsewhere for a bargain, 10-15k seems to be the norm for 30-50k mile cars.

It really depends on the car, and the previous owner, and if the car is in top flight shape and has all fluids, and updates, and service current.
Everyone above is correct... and most people accept age and minor defects as part of a DD car. A show car, or garaged once a month on sunny sunday driver, is a different purchase, and as show car even different still.
Super clean showroom cars where the paint is as new, the interior as new, the under hood and trunkl as new, that are up to date with Synthetic oils and service, and have light mods; Tune, mufflers, brakes $ hoses, NEW rubber etc... will always bring the extra $2,000-$3,000 more than thier $13M-$15M low miliage counterparts.
Everyone's socieo-economic situation is different, and each of us has our own auto pet peves that sets us apart (mine are dings, paint, wheel rash, and dirt of any kind anywhere hahahahah), and thus I've found that the average low miliage MM at $15M-$16M usually requires that I spend the $2M-$3M to get it the way that I want it anyway--so finding the one completely already done = the same amount.
The only KEY is what you want, and what you can comfortably spend to get what you want.
Again all IMHO.
Go for what you want--as long as you dont intend to sell in 6 months and make a fortune, your Marauder will find you.
PS and as Ms. Denmark asked--where is this perfect car anyway?

So a little update on the car. It is a 2 owner car that's sold at the dealer that sold it new. The first owner had it for a lease and drove 7k during the lease. All fluids are changed and current, the tires are the original Bfg's. According to the salesman, who's family owns the dealership the car is as close to new as it possibly could be. They are also firm on the price. I an kinda torn, since it sounds like what I have been looking for, just a little overpriced.
Some sold for that price brand new on the lot back in late 04.

Ask them to replace the tires, as they are not safe at 11-13 years old-- they can read the production date on the inside. As a dealer, they'd probably be liable if something happened... As they know/knew these tires had exceeded their known shelf life...
AND BUY IT!
Look at almost any car, right now today, for this amount of money, and this car still comes up on top.

I bought my DTR with 21,000 three years ago from the original senior owner and have only 22,500 on it currently. Many improvements have been made on my MM...a lot of which I have bought from folks on this website or have been rec by our members...badgeless grille, dead pedal, rear spoiler, Mach I front spoiler, Pro Guard, real Auto Meter guages, custom decals, Optima Yellow Top, K & N intake, custom dash cover and floor mats, DRT painted valve covers, gatorback belt, and on and on and on. Every once in a great while, I consider selling it and figure I would ask somewhere in the $18-$20 range so it seems to me that if the seller would replace the tires and or come off the price a bit, might sound pretty good.

+1 Other cars may have higher miles and still be in excellent condition. When I bought my first MM it had 60K miles on it an the car still had a slight new car smell.
