Not for the Marauder (sorry) but figured this question would be answered best here.

My 1993 Ford E-250 is having a problem with the ignition turning over. When I bought this thing it had one key. The key will only work in one position, cannot be used both ways like the Marauder key. Sometimes I really have to jerk the steering wheel back and forth or really hold it hard to the left to get the key to turn... again, this is sometimes with the original key, not every time.

I had more keys made and they work the doors fine, but will not turn over the ignition at all.

Should I take the van to a dealer and have keys made or should I simply replace the ignition myself? I took the Marauder ignition in and out when dealing with the clock spring, so I am no stranger to replacing it. If I replace it, does the computer need to be reprogrammed to get this to work?

Keep in mind this is a 1993.

Helpful suggestions only please... I cannot believe I have to say that.

Thanks!

The ignition is easily removed and reinstalled in moments. A replacement is readily available at most parts stores. Not being anti-theft means it can be replaced in mere moments by anyone with a pick tool or small drift. I can walk you through it if you need.

Try graphite lubricant in the cylinder. It's little dry flakes, not a lot either. I don't think it's a key problem.

Great! I will try this first.

Worst case, I will change the ignition.

Spray some WD40 in the cylinder.

No go to a locksmith first! They will be able to take apart and clean it!

I would not spray the WD-40 in the cylinder but on the key then stick it in.

The lock cylinder is worn - a locksmith can take a NEW lock cylinder and re-pin it to your original keys so you have the same key for the doors as the ignition - not expensive .
GO TO THE LOCKSMITH!

Most fleet econolines do not use PATs Dom. Even our '05&'06 don't.

How do the door locks work? Do they work with both sides of the key? If they are in good working order get a new lock cylinder and key set and have a local locksmith key it to the existing key and make some new keys. They will typically charge you $25 or less to rekey the new lock cylinder.

I thought the older cars had 2 keys, one to open the doors and one to start it....:confused:

my daughter had a car that simply had a worn key.
take your registration to the dealer and they'll make a key from scratch. i would try that first

I bet that's it. The new keys were a copy of a worn out key. Which is why they are all trouble.

If that still doesnt work I would replace the ignition cylinder like others have said. My 88 Cougar XR-&'s ignition cylinder went fubar and I wasn't able to start or get the key out. And I had my 92 LSC's replaced when I started getting some funky stuff act up...

Ford usually purges that info after 10 years, locksmith will be the answer, he can disassemble and replace the worn parts, or go to your local auto parts and buy a new cylinder.

$300 still a good deal, I'd pay that all day for it.

Anything running and driving for $300 in 2014 is a deal. This thing went up to 70mph without any issue at all and still had more in it. Heck, I was told scrap value for this thing is $500. I do not know what the seller was thinking. I didn't even talk down the price! Honestly, I think it was because I was one of the few who respected him at work and he knew I needed a van for my band. I think he knew what he was doing in the back of his mind
