I left work, noticed my car was running a little goofy looked down and saw the temp gauge was pinned at H:flamer:. I had only been driving for a few minutes. I immediately pulled over and swapped the thermostat out in a gas station.

I pulled the crossover plug out and let it run for 5 minutes. It bubbled a little and was maintaining medium temp. I started home and watched the temp gauge like a hawk. It would hover around 3/4 with the a/c on so I put the heat on max....in houston....in 95° weather. It then dropped to 5/8 or so.

When I got home I started to burp my car again on an incline and instead of bubbles overflowing out of the crossover, it spews coolant out every few seconds then resides.

I do not know what would make it do that but I stopped. The tstat is an el-cheapo from oriellys that opens at 195°, I know most guys run 188° or 180° stats.

Anyone have any input?

Thanks a lot.

You might of had a bad Tstat the first overheat....no need to run a 180 stat unless tuned or performance mods for it. And the burping procedure takes more than once with cool downs in between as far as I know. Here is a link

I have done this twice on two different cars in the last two months with success. Not sure where I saw it here but I think the key is this. Get a small funnel that screws in to the crossover plug hole, keep fluid in the funnel while it is running and you are massaging the upper hose. With coolant at that level it never has a chance to suck in air. Both times I only did it once and no issues.

Just follow this procedure and you'll be fine.

Does any one know if there is temp range on the Guage or is it "too cold", "just right" or "oh my god I am melting" ?

The needle should point to the 20MPH when operating normally.
