My '04 has 155,000 trouble free miles and is well maintained. I hope to get 250,000 out of it. I use it as my daily driver/commuter vehicle. I've been thinking that I would like to wake it up a little bit. I have Lidio's Tune so the only thing stopping me is the gear change. My question is....should I do it? Do I run the risk of wearing it out sooner? Will the increased RPM's at 70MPH become annoying? And if so..........should I do it anyway? I'm interested in feedback from especially from those that have done it.

Your not going to wear anything out sooner.......
You think 200RPM faster at 70MPH will annoy you?
JUST DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OH... don't forget you'll lose 1 - 2 MPG...

Weve already calculated this out jim...the loss in mpg is technically 2-3. Everyone says 1-2...but numbers dont lie.:) ive got a 164k, and looking to do the swap eventually. Parts will wear faster, but its such a minuscule amount that its generally overlooked. 200 rpm more for 5 minutes of driving is an extra 1000 rpm your motor has seen, the acceleration factor adds 2 more smiles per mile:)

the loss in mpg is technically 2-3. Everyone says 1-2...but numbers dont lie.It also depend on driving habits...if you're on the highway most of the time, the hit will be higher. If you're mostly around town, and don't have a heavy foot, the hit is almost none due to the car being easier to launch.

I would say with the miles you have, consider it a maintenance/service to the rear end along with an upgrade at the same time.
JUST DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got 367 miles out of my last tank, filled it with 17.5 gallons = 21 mpg on US 212 from the cities to Watertown SD and back, all with the 410s. It's how I got the car, don't know better, wouldn't have it any other way.

Indianapolis to Detroit I got 22 mpg on my trilogy car with 4.10's. I went 65-67mph only however.

Here's a thought-Do the gear swap and also put new plugs and coil packs in at the same time. I'd bet you don't see a milage drop at all. Considering your mileage I'd bet it breaks even

When I did 4.10's N/A I went from 22 to 20.5mpg. The mpg loss didn't mean squat compared to the fun improvement driving.
Then I installed T242 and now get 24mpg.
What have we learned? If you want better mpg than stock, add boost & 410s. :burnout:

Wow! Big grin! Sorry I waited. Seems like about 3-400 RPM higher @ 70 MPH.
