Have any of you blown through a revenue colletion location, err, I mean speed trap :), and been ignored because you appeared to be driving a "company car?"

Also, was there a protocol that you have found that works? For example, I have seen company cars go through traps at speed with nothing more than a double blink of the headlights.

Feedback appreciated. I am studying for the long drive home. :)

Best,

Dan

Well the classic in our family was when my wife's mother was hit with what proved to be a fatal stroke, I was in Europe on business. My wife packed our two kids (early teens) into the family silver Crown Vic HPP (95) and made the interstate run from Mobile Alabama to Birmingham to the hospital in daylight at a steady 90-95 according to the kids (we had words about that later but the car and tires were in great shape). She made it just before her mother died.
The Alabama troopers at that time used the same silver on their CVics and ignored her the whole way. They went past at least three of them going in the other direction. Everybody else going in the same direction apparently assumed she was a trooper on fast cruise and either just got out of the way or slowed down to 70 thinking she was a trooper coming up.
I have run black or silver CVics since then and in general in the South, people seem to think they are troop cars until proven otherwise.

Let a buddy take mine for a test drive last Sunday.

Blew through a 35 at 55, saw the CVPI too late. He never noticed us.

Buddy offered to by Marauder at that point, because he thought it would be handy to do that all the time.

I don't think we can count on it... might work better for the black cars. Buy a Valentine V1 and learn how to talk like a truck driver on the CB.

In CT there are no black CVPIs on duty that I have seen or heard of. The Navy MM might actually be more stealthy. Odds are the front grill/light config will prolly do more for you than the color.

I think it will be interesting to see how this fleshes out. I have a V1 and am planning on installing a CB.

Dan

Well, when i don't have my fancy schmancy wheels on, I usually ride with the 16" steelies w/o hubcaps.

So with the white 01 PI, black grille, blacked out windows, on my drives home from MD/DC to Fayetteville, NC, I usually get waves from state troopers. They're always parked in a cut in Virginia, and I usually blow by them. People slow down and move to the right lane, metting my pass.

One time, I was driving through Emporia, VA. An area about 10 miles away from the NC border. NOTORIOUS for catching people right before they enter/leave VA (they got me before I had my vic) Anyway I blew by him doing 90 in a 65. He turned his lights on and was pulling out for me, but then saw my car, and turned them back off and put it in park.

I love reading stories like that one. Thanks.

I am sure that I will have several of my own prior to the end of the summer. Either that or a few new infraction. My MM is going to be hard to keep at a resepectable 80-85 but I am going to try. :)

But with my 99 Vic I did.
I also got waved on when I got radared doing 80 in a 65 on rte 95 in SC heading to FL with la familia. I thought that was extremely nice of the Trooper!!

I live in Alabama and run a lot up to Tennessee and back in the same day. I would get the nod and wave on the interstate going 85-90 with my 1997 white crown vic. I never was stopped once in 210,000 miles of driving (mainly interstate). I traded the Vic in last month on a silver 04 Marauder. I have only done two long interstate runs so far, so cant really report on how it will be. I have to say the Marauder looks a LOT less like a leo than the white crown vic. Some people still blinker and get out of the way when they see me, but I have noticed that its effect is not a great when I drove the vic. Maybe I need to think about getting a radar detector :coolman:

My brother in-law and I went on a Pizza run last year, on the way back I let him take the wheel. It's dusk and he proceeds to nail it on a 2 lane road, hits about 80 (in a 30) :nono: , crests a hill and there is a local cop driving in the other lane, local justs taps his brakes and keeps going. At night I think the Color and Taillights saved him from the slammer.

Dan:

Have not yet been stopped in a revenue trap. However, here in Long Beach, police commanders (about six) have their own very dark blue vics so quite often I will pass a black & white unit in my black MM and they, thinking I am a commander, will avoid eye contact and suddenly turn in another direction or pull out from a parked position to quickly resume patrol. It can be funny. ;)

I always ride with running and fogs on. One for safety and two so I DON'T look like a cop... That and the tail lights in the rear don't look like normal CV lights anymore since the S-55 conversion. I still think that car has saved me some tickets, but I go out of my way to NOT be a cop. I hate coming up on a plain CV that someone thought it was cute to put a couple antenna on the back. :shake:

Hello everyone! I'm a new member also, but got my beautiful black MM last July and have never been happier with a car. I live in San Antonio and was pulled over about two weeks ago in IH37 downtown in an obvious speed trap (to everyone but me). The speed limit was 55 and the officer said I was doing 73. I knew I was going to be alright when he started talking about my car instead of my speed. After my short bragging session, he just told me to be careful and have a good day...not even a written warning.

btw, I love this site and the information I've discovered about my car

I have blown through a couple of speed traps (didn't see them in time to slow down) and the officers didn't pay any attention to me. It could be just dumb luck so I don't think I'll make a habit of putting this to the test on a regular basis.

True dat mon! It's a real pain in the no passing zones when the person in front of you thinks you're something you're not and they decide to go 5 mph under the speed limit just to be on the safe side!

When I put vanity plate on it stopped:mad:

Still a blast to drive:0

For whatever reason, nobody EVER thinks I'm a cop. Got lasered by Burbank PD last month--63 in a 35 (industrial area--light traffic, four-lane highway). Had he not been using laser (I saw him just as I crested a hill, HIDING in a commercial loading dock), I would've easily slowed to 40 by the time he realized I was even there.

Hey NBC,

I love those photos in your sig. Especially the on in the middle. Did you take that or is it a stock photo? It would sure be nice to see the rest of the lady who has those pretty legs. :)

Thanks for the compliments, Dan. No, not a stock shot--I shot the center shot with a strobe on a stand with a large white umbrella. I put the stand just outside the driver's door. Having the light coming from that direction (3/4 back) wraps nicely around the legs, and is great for shooting surfaces like car interiors. I had originally posted more leg shots, but my girlfriend got kinda shy about everyone on MM.net seeing her legs--she only let me keep this one posted. I also had a bunch of bikini shots up here awhile back, but she never knew I hired a model for one of our Southern Califonia Marauder meets, and I had to take them off the site.

Time for my .02c...

Blown quite a few speed traps here in STL...didn't bother me any, but I was a bit mystified until one of my fellow CG reservists clued me in: the local precinct captains all drive black CVPIs. License to rip 'n' roar? Not really. My windshield's a wreck from the slow disintegration of I-55; I regularly go through "rock storms" down around Loughborough, the River Des Peres, and Reavis Barracks Rd. The steady 75-mph speeds to stay in traffic (no kiddin' folks, it really does run that fast) aggravate the problem.

One of these years, MODOT will actually figure out how to pave roads... :depress:

That's not right! I know a cop who just got a ticket for doing 90 in a 65 and he's a long time cop. Showed the badge and everything!

Oh...wait...he was driving a 1995 bright red M3 BMW...

Well, if she ever isn't your girlfriend - and for the record I hope she always is - put them photos back up!!!

Beatiful women, like beautiful cars, deserve to get the attention their appearance dictates. :)
