View Full Version : looking for deep trans pan not made of aluminum

I'm looking to get a deep transmission pan. But all the ones I have seen are made out of aluminum frame. What concerns me is a larger pan will be closer to the ground and if its made out of aluminum its not as strong as the stock piece. If it gets bumped I think it would get damaged. Does someone make one out of steel or something strong enough or can you make some brackets to shield the pan.

My B & M deep trans pan does not stick down further than anything else under the car and holds an extra 2 quarts. I love it.
I can take a pic tomorrow for you. I have to go under to install my driveshaft loop.

Do you take your MM off road? If not, an aluminum deep trans pan is fine. Have mine on for 9 years with no problems. Not even a scratch.

The aluminum pans are not thin sheet metal, its a solid one piece casting. If you were to hit something hard enough to damage the aluminum one then a steel one would not fair any better.
For example I've mounted and dismounted dozen of curbs and my pan has never hit anything.

i'm thinking what you may want is a skid plate. i can make that :D
you never know when you may want to jump the car or run over curbs while being chased by the fuzz

No added value in increasing the fluid capacity you say? I would of put a more efficient cooler on mine if it did not come with the deep pan already. A larger cooler is still in my future...

I was desperate to keep my trans cool when I had all those trans issues. I did not have a temp gauge yet. Pointless? Maybe. So is most everything we do to these cars.
No added value in increasing the fluid capacity you say? I would of put a more efficient cooler on mine if it did not come with the deep pan already. A larger cooler is still in my future...
What is the point of added fluid if you can keep the stock amount cool?
NO POINT.
Plus I have a drain plug on my stock pan.
I swap out 4 quarts every other oil change.

Are you looking to build a smash-proof trans pan?
Because no one sells one although they do make a sort of trans pan girdle for drag cars my buddy has one on his C4.

Same here, it was already on the car when I bought it. The drain plug is nice to have.

Mine has a drain plug as well. Is that not common?

This is exactly why I installed the aluminum pan on my car. I wanted the drain plug. I drain mine each spring. About 6 quarts.

Yeah, the drain plug is the selling point of the U-Haul pans IMO.

I was concerned about clearance issues so I ordered the TCI it holds 2 quarts instead of 3 like other pans. Since it holds 1 quart less its a bit smaller and should sit a little higher. You guys say its strong so I'll take your word.
By the way, the shop suggested I change the driveshaft since I'm building the transmission. They said I should swap it...its not damaged just upgrade. What do you guys think. I haven't read much about them. Is it necessary. It is S/C...

What are they going to change the driveshaft to? The MM already has an aluminum one. All you might need to do is change the u-joints and high speed balance.

I don't think its really necessary for me. I don't drive at high speeds for long periods of times. I have too many tickets! I still have stock gears and other parts I'd rather invest in. Like swapping exhaust first.
