My Marauder has 12K on it and the tires have started to dry rot. It's mainly a nice weather car, if I even get a chance to drive it.

I have searched here for tires and there are way too many choices.

I know the stock size:
Front: 235/50-18
Rear: 245/55-18

I have a 2004 which has traction control. I don't want to switch the TC off every time I drive. Would going to the following size have any affect on the TC? Also would they fit on stock rims?

Front: 255/45-18
Rear: 265/50-18

Or should I stick with the OEM size? I was thinking going with Coopers or Firestone. Not really a fan of Nittos.

Thanks

yes they fit fine on stock and t/c not effected. NItto is the only one I know of that makes a 265/50/18

I run the Nitto NT555 on all four corners in the sizes above. I like the look of the wider size. They are good in dry weather but tend to spin in the rain from a dead stop or under hard acceleration.

Okay guys, I don't post much but I have a 2004 MM completely stock with 66,000 miles on it. And, YES I am ready for my third set of tires(at least on the rear) after owning the car for 10 years since new. Last time I got the BF Goodrichs and I've been happy with them for the most part. I'd buy them again but alas none to be found (tire rack has one but not two). After researching the site and tire shops it seems I only have 2-3 choices now. The Coopers (I'm leaning toward), The Nittos, or Firestone.
I don't really want to change the size if it's going to screw with the traction control or speedo so I'm thinking I should go with the same size 245/55 ZR 18 103w M+S as what came on the car. It sounds like some of you had no issues slightly changing the size a bit.
Pardon my ignorance and for sounding like a bit of a boob. Also, what about the profile/height of these tires, specifically the Coopers and Nittos? Is it different from the BFG's? or same? Your thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated. I don't need fronts but it looks like I'll be getting those too since I prefer matching all four. Thanks again guys!

Mine were dry rotted at 14k. Was able to squeeze another grand out of them then replaced with stock. I found some reverse printed ones on ebay for rears, and ponied up full retail for the fronts. I think these tires are fine for normal driving.

Cooper Zeon RS3A or the Firestone tires or the Nitto Motivo in factory sizes have same profile, load rating and same or better speed rating and a better wear rating . None of them will effect traction control in factory sizes

I've run BFG and Firestone. Also tried some Yokohoma Advan on the rear but the sidewalls were horribly floppy at a high price.

The Firestone are decent, but the BFG are better. More precise steering response at turn-in and excellent cornering grip. I know it is easy to bash a tire that everybody has driven in worn-out form, but the BFG KDWS are a really excellent handling tire. Wear could be a bit better, but they are not much worse wearing than Firestone.

Thanks RubberCityRauder. So, which ones do you recommend? I wouldn't mind going up a size on all fours to give it a beefier look but if it's going to cause to many differences/variables I'll just keep it safe. Cooper? Nitto? Cooper? Nitto? Cooper? Nitto? . Decisions………

I just sold my other Maraduer before i picked my present Trilogy one up the other week. and I had the Coopers and really liked them, great in rain, great on dry. Cooper I think is having a sale now too , but So is Discount tire direct so the NItto MOtivos might be on sale too. If youare driving most of the year, thru weather then pick one of them IMO whichever look sbetter, or priced better, however you choose. The NItto 555 is a summer rated tire and does not do well when weather is cold, they beome slick.

can't really "up" a size with the size rims we have to the best of my knowledge and still have an all around tire

I've used, Nitto 420s, General UHPs, BFG KDWS, Falken Ziex 912s, and Nitto Motivos.

I think the Nitto Motivos were the best, and if you need to save some cash, I liked the Falkens.

What ever you do, stay away from the Generals, the sidewalls are weak and I almost wrecked my car the first time I went to merge on to a highway.

I have had the Coopers in OEM sizes on DD since March in Texas. Driven them hard in rain , heat and a short session of slushy ice. At 35 psi they are showing little wear and with the right front end setup they are wearing perfectly. I personally like them better than the OEM and Kuhmos. To each his own. I like my Coopers lots. I guess you could go to plus size of 235-55-18 front and 255/55-18 resr

Okay gentlemen, because I DO drive the Marauder in cold weather (but very seldom) it looks like I'm going with the Coopers. This is a tough call for me between the Coopers and Nitto Motivos. I hope I can take the entrance and exit loops on the freeway at the speeds I did in the BFG's. I'll let you all know how it goes when they're laced up!

Good choice , mine have been winter tested [Wash,MD,VA metro, Tested] and have seen 140 Mph with no problem. Double tire mileage on fronts ,:Dthan stock... no slip& no slide off and on Exit ramps ...

almost 11 years of daily driving and the Firestone's are by far the best all season tire I have had.

Nitto Motivo's all the way! Go 265 rear. Fill wheels arches nicely, more comfy, lots of traction too!

I almost got the Coopers but in the end I just like the way the Nitto's look better.

Snow was no issue for the Motivo's.

My local dealer sells these in 255 55 18: Maxxis MA-S2 Marauder. A pretty unknown tire which i am not going to test but the effect would be nice to have the cars name on the tire. Did anyone already do it?

My car came with the Falken Ziex stz01 and i replaced them with the Goodyear Eagle F1 just because i liked older Eagle F1s on my other cars.

That is one fugly tire.

It looks like it would belong on a '76 Fairmont.
