I had occasion to replace my DS rear tire with my donut due to a flat. But the donut was flat too. I seem to have neglected checking the tire pressure periodically. A nice man in the parking lot at the lake (far from civilization) had a portable compressor and we aired-up the donut and I was on my way.

So, as a public service bulletin, I advise you to check the air pressure in your spare or donut because there may not be a nice man with a portable compressor nearby.

Thanks, I should have posted this warning last year. I took a lag bolt in two tires, one popped out and the tire didn't blow but went down quick. The rim sliced the tread right off. Donut Spare held just enough air to limp me two miles to next exit. Had like ten or fifteen psi. Thanks for the reminder.

Also, with our cars being 10 - 12 years old, Our spares are getting old. Actually that is what got ruined, I had recently swapped that tire with a front and bought one. The former spare, nearly new, was trashed. I have a worn full size in the trunk if needed. (Put in other MM trunk )

I have a portable compressor in the MM and the wife's van, Plus about 10 or 12 years ago I locked myself out of the car. Since that day I carry a key in both front pants pockets. Only way to get locked out again is to loose pants,if I loose pants then better not go home anyway.:)

Having a portable compressor is "cheap" insurance IMHO tmwlch1! :)

As for locking yourself out of your car, why didn't you use the key-less entry code? I can't count the amount of times I've relied on it! :o

never checked my full size spare but I carry a portable air compressor all the time. never used it and at 115K I feel blessed it has not been needed.
