Anyone have a good way to clean the oxidation off the aluminum top end parts of our motors? Intake plenum, water pump etc. It's driving me nuts and I've found nothing that will work. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Bead blasting, then powder coat.

Anyway to do it without parts removal? I've tried a aluminum cleaner but of course no luck

Ive tried many cleaners and no luck myself. Sandpaper works a little, but its dusty, and i dont recommend.

I've used Mequiars NXT All Metal Polish to clean up some parts, took off most oxidation and left a decent shiny surface, better than what it was.

Anyone who has ever owned a Harley for a few years would know this. Mothers and NeverDull both come to mind.

I liberally used clear lacquer paint on all of the AL of my car when I got it. But That was planning ahead. I used to own a Harley, hated polishing the thing.

use a small stainless or brass wire brush, size of an oversize toothbrush, if you have alot of the powdery oxidation

I know it's not what it was designed for but I spray armorall tire foam. http://www.armorall.com/products/tire-foam/ It doesn't remove the oxidation but it does leave a coating behind that makes it look less offensive. Just spray liberally on the motor, hoses and plastic. Then work it in with a paintbrush and microfiber towels. I've been doing this to all of my cars for 10+ years and I have never had a problem.

Steel wool for unobstructed areas and small wire brush for close areas.;)

With over 50 years of maintaining an aluminum crankcase on a Continental C - 85 aircraft engine. I learned a bitter lesson. NEVER USE ANY STEEL WOOL OR FERROUS BRUSH, etc on aluminum castings. The iron particles will get into the pores of the casting and then you will have rust stained aluminum----looks terrible and almost impossible to remove. AAlumi-Nu is excellent. No iron in it. Just my / cents. Maury

sanding discs with lots of grinders grease. Change pads often. When you get to that brushed aluminum look (sand cast bumps are gone) start polishing compound (black first-then red, last but not least-white. If you have an entire winter, it will look magnificent in the spring.

What about 30 second wheel cleaner? It's acid based. Spray on -- spray off?

Polishing metal is like sex. There is the slow, take your time......OMG..OMG and then there is the quickie.

If you want a good polish... take your time!

Try Professor Amos' cleaner concentrate sold at HSN.
It is a pretty good product.
