Power Steering Pressure sensor

Mary's car is getting a P0552 code...which indicates an issue with the power steering pressure sensor or circuit. That make sense as she says the steering is heavy at slow speeds. Going to troubleshoot this weekend, but I can't find that part listed anywhere...not tascaparts, not Rock Auto, not Advance, not VatoZone...anyone have a clue?

Bob, I believe it comes with the rack.

Try cleaning the connection at the switch, it usually is dirty from oil and road debris, and make sure you have good contact between the switch and connector. Check the wiring harness.

VAPs module, non serviceable part, allegedly....... But you would have to buy another rack to get the part, and pull the rack to change it. Last rack I bought, I got from NAPA, bad news, first one had the module fail in a day, had to redo it, on a plus side, the second rack install went faster.

VAPs module, non serviceable part, allegedly....... But you would have to buy another rack to get the part, and pull the rack to change it. Last rack I bought, I got from NAPA, bad news, first one had the module fail in a day, had to redo it, on a plus side, the second rack install went faster.

Jerry's Black Trilogy car sets this code constantly, however it steers like a dream. Solution... shut fault off. :mad2:

I'm talking about the sensor in the pressure-side hose, not the EVO on the rack.

I did find a listing on Rock Auto for the sensor, but it's under Crown Vic. There was no listing under Marauder or Grand Marquis. Hopefully it's the same part.

New issue...the wiring diagram shows a 3-wire circuit and the connector to be a round 4-pin, while the connector on the switch is a square 2-pin. Am I looking at the wrong part? It's located in the PS hose just in front of the A/C compressor. Is this not the pressure sensor? The FSM makes no mention of it...

*EDIT* Even weirder: the same sensor on The Blackbird DOES have a round connector...

Can't remember how many wires off hand Bob, but yes that sensor is the pressure sensor. Unplug it and your power steering will come and go as it pleases.

Mystery solved, thanks to 03CVLXSport on CVN:

"The power steering pressure switch is used for engine controls and is not parts of the VAPS module/ VAPS operation. That's why you're getting a P code and not a B/C code. When there is high demand for assist at low speed maneuvers, such as a parking lot, it causes high pressure to build up in the system. The pressure sensor sends a signal to the PCM to ramp up idle speed to meet the demand. The only thing the VAPS looks at is vehicle speed to control fluid flow through an orifice at the rack. This gives a firmer road feel at higher speeds. One is low, one is high.

Anyway, there was a change mid year on the CVs and I'm guessing it applies to Marauders/GMQs. There are also two separate high pressure lines, one is a solid piece, the other is two pieces that couple right above the sensor.
