Okay so just got a marauder a few weeks ago and still has the complete stock system. What's a good sound for them while keeping it California smog legal?
Leave it alone. You don't know how good it actually sounds until your buddy is driving it while you listen from afar.

+1 driving and spectating give you two completely different sounds

but if you weren't in cali, I would suggest rear cat delete plus removing the resonator on the stock tips, this give you a lot better sound without being loud and drawing attention to the fact that you modified the exhaust.

Just removed the rear cats the other day. Stock marauder mufflers sound good.

The MM exhaust flows pretty well from Mercury. The choke point is the piping right before the mufflers. I think it chokes down to 2" from 2 1/4". Replace that section with decent H or X piping and you will have a very good flowing system that California won't have and issue with.

I don't mean to high jack the tread but if I delete the real cats would I have problems passing the emissions test

Could always have them hollowed out and leave the body of the cats in place

I did this to a 5.0 Mustang once and the empty cat rang like a damn bell on acceleration!!:mad2:
May need to run a straight pipe through the gutted cat??

+1 for stock setup. My second favorite setup was my SW long tubes, catless, with 98 cobra intake cams, stock H and mufflers etc. It had a nice choppy sound on cold startup, great WOT tone and best of all NO DRONE!. More aggressive cams would have made it even better.
Loud does not always equal fast.
