Hi all,

Just brought home my 2003 marauder. I am changing the oil and noticed what looks to be a drain plug beneath the filter. It's an Allen screw on the port where the oil pressure sensor is connected. Can this be used to drain the filter before removing it so there is less oil to clean up from the surrounding surfaces?

Thanks,
Greg

With the angle of the filter would not matter anyway ,I know what you mean about the mess all over the rack and so on :(

No, the ADBV in the filter will prevent it from draining back. That's a pressure test port, BTW. It's an unfortunately fact of life with these cars that everything does get messy when changing the filter. Get some Brakleen and it spiffys right up.

Take a saved plastic bag like you bring your groceries home with and loosen the filter a little then put the bag over the filter and finish turning it off then grab the top of the bag and lift it up, cuts down on most of the mess

I had heard that there was a special made funnel type tool made fore these panthers that kept the oil from hitting all the parts and hoses on the way down, and kept it going everywhere.

You are correct, I purchased one back
in 2004, but don't remember who I
purchased it from. Possibly a Ford dealer &
worth the few bucks it cost.

The oil filter drain deflector is a Ford part. Don't know the P/N tho.... Sorry.

Brake Clean works wonders to get rid of all that dripping oil when changing filters.

Wait for a sale and stock up.

A remote mount oil filter kit works even better!
