It says ignition coil E/Secondary Circuit Malfunction...
Im hashing this problem my car shakes in drive and reverse only when I stop for about thirty seconds and stop but it doesn't shake in park, neutral, or when the a/c is on I can't figure out what this problem is so I put the car in the shop and at first he told me it was the ecm come to find out it wasn't, he changed the COP connector, battery connector, alternator and computer. And still didn't fix the problem he also did a compression check on that cylinder and he said it's not the engine it's an electrical problem somewhere....I'm so lost someone please help

Swap the coil and plug from cylinder 5 (front-most on the driver's side) with any other one...see if the code follows.

I swapped out the coil and plug and it stopped for a little while but came right back

Came back on cylinder 5? Sounds like a wiring issue...see if you can trace the wires from the coil to the PCM.

How come when I google PO335 for Ford and Crown Vics/Marauders etc etc, it comes up as a camshaft position sensor issue?

Because the OP has code P0355, not P0335.

Did you figure out what the problem is? I now have the same code, changed the coil and plug also, and still can't figure it out. I thought about the ECM, but you said, It wasn't that. I'm just curious if you've had any better luck. This didn't start till I had a car wash at Delta Sonic. They did an undercarriage spray, and I'm wondering if it messed up some wiring.

No I still havent found the problem, the car drives fine but when I put it in drive or reverse it tends to shake for about 30 sec and stop but it doesn't do it in park, neutral or when the a/c is on so now im thinking of a vacuum leak

Is your CEL still on? I finally got mine back, but I had multiple problems. Here's something you might want to look into. I had the P0355 code going into the shop. Mechanic says, he scanned it and got P0325, n P0326, which is the knock sensors. My Actron scanner didn't pick these up! He put new ones in, and it runs perfect now. Well, that and him fixing the other codes I had. Anyways, I asked about the P0355, and he said, It was a dummy code brought on because of the knock sensors. Hence why the new coil, and the new plug didn't work. I'm not sure if that's your problem. My car was running like crap!

The wires for cylinder #5 run back along the top of the engine to behind the left cam cover. Then down and to a big connector held together with a bolt in the center right under the power brake booster. From there it runs over the PCM connector between the brake booster and inner left fender. If it happens when putting it in gear, this rocks the engine slightly and may be moving the harness enough to cause an intermittant open or short.
Vislually inspect the harness along the engine and especially where it runs along the back driver's side of the engine. The bracket that holds the windshield wiper assembly in place has a sharp edge along with the area in the back of the head. The engine harness passes very close to these areas.
While the engine is running you can gently tug and shake on the harness from cyl 5 to connector and to the PCM and see if it causes the problem to occur. This may give you a starting point to check that are of the engine harness.

Just a suggestion. When a coil/misfire problem occurs it makes far more sense to replace all the coils and spark plugs. The PCM is imperfect at identifying which coil is failing, and the reality is the OEM coils were flawed. If one fails, the next is not far behind. You may have more than one failing in an intermittent fashion. It just isn't worth chasing your tail on this one.
Time is money, replace them all. Good deals are available, that is one of the good points of American cars.

The coils are and were not "flawed"....the damn connectors are the problem!!:argue:
Solid connectors.....no corrosion.....no problems with high resistance!!
Mine will be 11 years old in November and have a pot load of miles on 'em......NEVER MISSED A LICK!!:D
Solid connectors and a new coil and he's set!!:bows:

Not you again
Just because yours worked OK doesn't mean there aren't problems. Dozens of us (or more) have had to replace the coils. I saw burning and arcing on the epoxy casing. And the spring coils "wires" are not high resistance compared to a spark plug gap!
Or did you miss all the threads about coil problems fixed with new units?

Then answer me this smarta$$.....why are the recommended replacements ALWAYS OEM coils??
Believe what you will but I assure you that us with solid connectors have better results!!:bows:

The OEM coils are a different part number than what shipped with our cars. They are NOT THE SAME. They appear to have corrected the problem.

When I had ignition coil problems I first installed solid connectors. It did not fix the coil problem.

Pot calling the kettle black. ;)
You seem to be ignoring the obvious. Many, many people have had ignition coil failures.

I had the same problem twice.
The first was replacing the COP on coil #4.
THen 2 months later it was doing the same thing.
Turned out the PCV Hose collapsed and was causing the
engine to rev in reverse and park every 15-20 seconds.

Hey bro. Just wondering if you ever found out what was the problem with this issue. I have the same exact thing on my 2004 MM. It happens while im sitting at red lights. Around 30 seconds then stops misfiring, then it will start the misfire again. It also kind of sputters as I leave the light and it goes away as I increase my speed. I have also replaced all park plugs and #5cop. Still doing the same and getting the CEL:confused::mad2:
