View Full Version : Alignment question

I have new Nitto 555's on all 4 corners, I paid for a 4 wheel alignment and drove the car 1,500 miles.

Today I noticed one inch wear down to the cords on the inside edge of both front tires , so I guess their is a toe out problem?

My question is should I be annoyed with the shop that did the alignment because they may have gotten it wrong?

Should I consider them liable in any way for the tire damage?

Or can the car go out of alignment that quickly because of something else?:mad2:

Unless you used carfixers specs the inside will wear. Search for the specs, print them out and bring them to the alignment shop.

And ask them why they charged you for 4 wheel alignment when should of been 2,they can only align the fronts no adjustment on rear can be made .

Ive never had my car aligned to carfixer specs, nor have I ever had tire wear.

The specs are so close in comparison, its almost pointless.

Another thing: Carfixer's specs are within factory specs.

Zack I did carfixers specs on my previous marauder and they never wore like they did previously (destroyed the inners). So I think the specs known as 'carfixers' work. That being said I have -2.0 camber in the front... Need to fix that...

I know... Lazyness prevents this still... Needed time off work to get car into the shop and install them... Swamped though. Thinking maybe before MV12 I'll get it done. Need to so I can go a little lower on ride height.

Down to the cords in 1,500 miles? Something is seriously wrong. How many miles on the car? Your front suspension could be, and likely is, worn on a 10 year old car driven typical yearly mileage. What specs was the car aligned to (actual numbers, not "within factory limits")?

I like carfixer's alignment. I've used it since the first alignment.

The car has 102,000 miles, I have an appt. Thursday with the owner of the business to see what went wrong, I do not know what specs they aligned with the first time but it sure looks as though they really missed the mark. I

Never used Carfixers specs. Had first alignment from factory at about 130k. No inner wear anymore. Tracks perfectly.

My car had inner wear bad when I got it. New tires and carfixers specs, all is good 20k later...

Disclaimer: noob question

What purpose do the SPC camber bolts serve? Is there more than just one purpose?

some shops claim they are needed to hit carfixers specs. my local belle tire said they needed them but my local guy at crane alignment did not :dunno:

Gotcha. Someone also mentioned somethin about ride height possibilities with these. Anyone care to shed some light on this? I also plan to do the carfixer specs when I get new rubber in the next few months.

If the front of your Marauder is lowered at all, it is harder to meet the carfixers specs. The factory camber bolts only allow so much movement, The SPC ones requires air grinding a slot inthe control arm for the offset cams on the bolts to allow more camber adjutment..Mine is lowered inthe front 3/4 of a coil.

There is a install video here. You can buy them for around $30 each from summit, tirerack, amazon, and not necessarily spc direct

you'll need the bolts if you plan to slam the car to the ground and make it a snow plow like limited360........ :run:

You should fab up a V plow at your shop for him:D

My black car was lowered and could not meet any specs. I did the SPC install myself and it has some adjustment to spare. My DTR also was wearing the inner tread with the factory specs. I had Carfixers specs done and have had no further problems. Just my two cents worth.

I have the same wear problems in front. 15k and the tire is gone on the inside. Because I live in Switzerland and no shop has ever seen or touched a Merc I decided to keep the original allignment. Tried to prevent making it even worse in the end. But now I'm so annoyed by that and want to fix it. Will the often quoted masterspecs also work with my Eibach Pro-Kit springs?

The bolts will not get your car into spec James. It's way too low to hit the mark unfortunately

You need the SPC camber bolts since your car is lowered. Factory camber doesn't allow for much adjustment. The SPC bolts require airgrinding/airfiling a slot in the lower control arm to allow for more camber movement.

You can see a install video here

Thanks for your helpful reply RubberCty. I try to get my hands on these bolts maybe as a winter project.

I like your Weißbirke Plünderer title btw.

SPC bolts can be purchased thru summit racing., tirerack.com, and thru amazon.com. And also SPC. Not sure the shipping for where you are. And thanks for the thumbs up on my saying with my avatar. Nobody has ever asked about it, yet alone know what it means.

I went back to the alignment shop and it turns out that the alignment was out by over 1 degree.(toe out I think)

The shop believes it was an issue with their alignment equipment which was recently repaired.

To my surprise they ordered two new Nitto 555's to match my rears and will be installing them at no charge with a new alignment and an apology.

Meh... spec is another story... better than -2.0 degrees would be nice on camber. Lower it will go and stay at -2.0 if that's all I can get!!!

Awesome that the shop stepped up and gave you new tires!
