I purchased two Ford 4.6 & 5.4l stainless steel exhaust manifold stud kits from Metric Screw and Tool Co. on Amazon. I just wanted to tell everyone it is very high quality, cheaper, and nicer than OEM. The studs have allen heads and are completely threaded which allows them to fully seat rather that running out of thread for better holding power and less chance of stripping the aluminum threads in the cylinder head. The nuts are serrated flange nuts so they shouldn't back out. The nuts are also stainless so they won't rust like the OEM nuts.
They also have kits for the 6.8L V10 which are the same but have an extra stud and nut in each kit.(in case you lose one)
Here's a pic of the package

I value your opinion, but no one will ever get a torque wrench on the header bolts while the engine is in the car. There's a reason Ford used studs and it's so that the cylinder head threads didn't get stripped. For anyone like me that normally overtightens everything unless a torque wrench is used, these are the way to go.

Gospel right here.
Installing locking header BOLTS is not smart.
I wonder if anyone has needed to remove them while in the car?

Remember to use anti-seize on the threads

Do you guys use the high heat copper anti-seize on the exhaust manifold studs?

Advantages & disadvantages to each.
Stage 8 bolts little to short don't use all threads in head. Royal pain to fit locks. Impossible to remove most locks while motor in car.
The stainless steel stud kit. Only draw back allen head could strip if stud seized & leave you in a pickle.
Just ordered some for R/L banks . Will use plenty of high heat nickle anti seize.

Nickel is definitely better for stainless we go through tons of it at the shop.

The allen heads or rather deep, they fit very well to a 5/32 Allen wrench, I think there's a lot less possibility of these stripping than the factory ones that use a standard socket. If an allen head strips, all you need to do is put two bolts back to back crank them together then wrench it off with the inner nut.

I tried the Stage 8 locking bolts on my previous Panther. Also tried percy crushable layered gaskets. Those are two things I'll never do again.
I use OEM (Felpro) head to exhaust manifold gaskets and OEM studs with OEM locking nuts.

I just bought but haven't installed mentioned gasket. What didn't you like about the Percy crushable exhaust manifold gasket ?

They blew out and eventually leaked. I was also dealing with warped FRPP shorty headers and didn't know they weren't true at the time.

Can anyone help me to find a passenger side exhaust manifold for my 2004 Mercury Marauder? No dealer has this part. Its the pipe from the engine to the exhaust system. Its difficult to find because they no longer make this part anymore. Thank you

I would post up a new thread looking for one, exhaust manifolds are like door stops to anyone who has upgraded to headers.
