I previously reported that my cruise control was inop. Took it to the dealer and they diagnosed the problem, it turned out to be the steering wheel clock spring. A big part. Cost of repair about $550.00, parts and labor, tax included. FYI.

Wow, dealers are something. It's a $60 part, and took me less than an hour to change. I could see them charging maybe $200 if they are jerks, but $550... wow

Thank you gentlemen for your insight. It is valuable to know that 1. the part is inexpensive, 2. that it is easy to change (assuming one knows how to even begin).

I posted this to let folks know that the clock spring, along with brake switch, steering wheel switch circuit board and servo (engine bay) can cause loss of cruise control.

my symptom was a complete loss of all functions of the cruise control.

The service writer said that there was no power to the cruise control (whatever or wherever that is). He couldn't elaborate.

So many times problems are mentioned but the fix is left in the dust somewhere.

Hope others can benefit from this experience.

Pat

My :twocents:

A clock spring is probably more like $125-$150 range for an OEM part, then add diagnostic time, and r&r $200 ain't gonna cut it. Depending on the labor rate $550 while I think is high...may not be that high.

Not as bad as the service writer quoted me yesterday. The bill was $484.00,
broken out as follows: $288.00 labor (3 hr) and $155.00 for the clock spring and $40.00 tax.

The folks all liked the Marauder and the tech came in an hour early to install the part this AM. Car works great.

At most. And the diagnostics are spit right out on a solus. How many times over do they expect to pay for the tool? Makes me sick to hear of such BS. Sorry Pat.
