I know it is not a Ford, but I just picked up this 1974 Z28 Disco Camaro:

http://legalknevil.com/gallery3/var/resizes/CamarMO/Camaro.JPG?m=1408114083

http://legalknevil.com/gallery3/var/resizes/CamarMO/photo%204-35.JPG?m=1408915711

My plans for the car are to Swap in a 5.7 LS1 and a T56.

I am in the parts ordering and rounding up stage at the same time as tearing the car down.

I will be using BRP Hotrods LS conversion set up with mid-length headers so that stuff has been ordered up.

Also, my shop is a dealer for Classic Auto Air so I ordered and will be using their kit with Direct Electronic Replacement controls.

Currently my plan is to sell the existing Z28 wheels (factory) and use a 17" replacement Z28 style wheel.

As I go, I will need to figure out what to do for the header back exhaust but my current thinking is to use a set up that allows me to use a transverse muffler as the car came with from the factory.

I am also looking at using a Tanks, Inc. fuel tank set up and Dakota Digital gauges. My partner has the Dakota Digitals in his '70 LS-swapped Nova and I like the way that they look.

I am sure as I go I will have questions for all the folks who have been down this swap path before and hopefully I won't wear folks out with questions.

I will be posting parts for sale as well as I take them off the car. For sure I will be selling the Z28 wheels and the the Super T-10.

I've had all four model years from 78-81, the true disco Camaros! :) Love them, always will. Good cheap fun car. I would definitely go older like yours if I went for a fifth.

On Sunday morning, I brought the car back to my home shop from the paint shop.

Pretty soon we should start the process of stuffing the LS and 6 speed in the car.

I am really pumped on this build!

And it runs!!!!!!!!

Today we did a lot of the "last on the list" stuff although the list is not yet done....

So here it is with the hood finally back on just before we backed it out for its maiden LS voyage. I drove it for about 2 miles and then put it back in the garage. Wednesday I will take it to the alignment shop if the weather Gods cooperate!!!

I think we hit the stance on the money and I am tickled right now! Pinch me!!!!

Love those seats, are they stock? They look really close to Crown Vic Sport leather seats. (The bottoms) Wonder if they could be put into a Marauder...

Sorry to throw this in late, but can it turn? Hotchkis setup with low pro tires? :o

We went a different direction than Hotchkiss and got very good results. The car has a beefier sway bar, tubular upper and lower A arms, QA double shocks with coil overs up front, a lower block and QA adjustables our back.

The seats are a factory Camaro seat with the "deluxe" (cloth) removed and PUI seat covers and cushions installed.

Marty, I just noticed this thread. Love it! This was my high school ride. Love the 74 and have fantasized about finding a replacement. Nice tasteful mods, although I am partial to the original wheels. Those stripes were the best option for Z28 and only one year if I recall.

Very very nice. Let me know when you want to sell. Maybe the stars will be aligned.

Sorry Marty! Wrap-around back glass ftw! That's why 75 is my 2nd fav Camaro. Rear wrap-around finished off the '74 look and it had metal bumpers (even if they were not chrome). Absolutely hated the '76 when the beginning of the plastic covered bumpers started. :shake:

God I miss real chrome metal bumpers... :depress:

I can't believe I'm just now reading this thread! I've had 4 myself. (73 RS Z28, 77 Type LT, 79 Z28, n a 81 Z28) I always loved 74s! The small window carry over from 73, and the new front shiny metal bumper, that would last for 4 years. The stripes were bold, and it was the last year for the Z28 until 77. It's AMAZING what you've done with it! Love the cup holders! Looks frickin bad ass!

Thanks!

I am searching a '79 or '80 preferably with a really good body, preferably in red, that need a motor/trans swap.

I already have my trans and am hording other parts for when the "right" car pops up!

Our shop is closed on Mondays so we decided to use our down time to toss my car on the rollers, finish the tuning and see what kind of power the car was putting down.

The final numbers were 333rwhp/335Tq

Ignore the inverted spikes on the graph. Our tac signal was all screwed up on the dyno today. Apparently the dyno did not want to be bothered on its day off.
