I'm missing a cap for the air conditioning.

I've gone to the junk yard around here looking for one, with no avail. I went to a few local FLAPS, bought kits, and none of them fit. They were to small. So I looked on ebay, and found one that was suppose to fit our cars. Picture looked right, but when I got it, it looked nothing like the picture. Oh, and again it didn't fit! Am I missing something here? (Obviously I'm missing a cap.) Is it press fitted? Does anyone have one that'll fit? I haven't gone to the dealership, to order one. I figure they'd want me to buy new lines just to get one. That always seems to be the case, every time I need something. Any help would be appreciated.
This is what it looks like.

Mine's been "missing" since I picked her up at the dealership. Don't worry about it.

I've never had one since I bought her either, but it bothers me! I know it not being there, isn't effecting anything. I just feel like, ("They're all gonna laugh at you!") people notice it. (Kinda like I do.) Like when I had my hail damage! I felt people would see the car, and be like, What a nice looking car. Oh wait, he's got dents on the hood, roof, trunk, and fender. What a piece of crap! Ha, Ha! You know what I'm talking about? Driving down the road with a smile on your face. Looking around at people checking your ride out. An then getting to your destination, only to see a bird left a big present on your hood!

Try a local radiator/air-conditioning shop, they prolly have a bin full of them.

BTW, it screws on.

I thought about doing that. I just don't want to hear they're BS! Like, oh you need to have the AC recharged before you put a cap on, etc, etc.. (I have trust issues!) I know they screw on. I took one off of some new lines that were at the dealership, and actually took it with me, to see if it fit, and it didn't. I returned it after. I just wasn't sure what I was doing wrong, especially since I bought one, that was suppose to be for our cars. I'd send it back to them, but it only cost me $3, and it's not worth the effort.

I tried to get Jerry interested in making some with the Godshead on them but at the time I think he was helping Zack with his brake project. Maybe he could look into this when he has some time.

True, but I don't think I want to go that route. It's not hurting anything not being there. I'd just like to get an original, or original looking cap. Well that, and one that fits!

Ordered one on ebay. Thanks!

Since you know part numbers.......The 3 plastic retainers that hold the plastic shroud over the radiator and hood latch etc. Do you know the part number for those?

I hope it fits for you. I tried that route too. This place said it was for a MM. The one I ordered was part # FJC2616. There were a few retailers with the same #. So I figured it was the right one. Though as I mentioned, it doesn't look like it did in their picture. Hopefully, Comin' in Hot has the right #.

Hi FastBlackMerc

Mine's been "missing" since I picked her up at the dealership. Don't worry about it.

You should worry about it as its the secondary seal against the valve seeping, it also stops the valve from corroding

Also keeps dirt and water out of the valve...recharge with a little dirt and the system will revolt....eventually!! :mad2:

That sucks! I was really hoping it was the right one for you. So that I could order one! I guess I'm gonna try going to an auto air conditioning place. I'll let you know what I find, and hopefully they'll have 2. If they do, I'll send you one.

I finally found the right one! I went to the dealership and ordered a couple of different ones for our cars. I ended up not going to an air conditioning place, so I apologize to you tbone. Though I do have the part #! YF-2441 (F7RZ-19D702-BA)

There are two standard sizes, as some systems have two caps, one for high pressure side and one for low. That's why the caps aren't fitting for you.
