Sorry to hear about the bad news, that's low mileage and in my opinion well worth repairing especially if you love it.
There are some very knowledgeable people on this sight who will help out with some cost effective ways to repair it.
Hopefully you can locate a good independent mechanic you can trust for the repair.
Good luck.

the marauder is actually one of the easiest 4.6 32v cars i have worked on due to the huge engine bay providing room to get to everything.
the parts to rebuild are only about $500 if your pistons rods and heads are good , but the labor to pull the engine and the machine work for the block crank, heads (valve job), and to have the rods/ pistons checked will probably cost you about 2k alone.

Find an engine from an Aviator / Mach One.
Foster Auto in Portland has one, $2000. Plus shipping and install, you might be looking at $4000 all said and done.
It could just be a head gasket though.

Another Option....http://engineguy.com/2003-2004-mercury-marauder-4-6l-4v-ford-4-6-03-04-dohc-longblock-atkdffx.html
Might be worth it on such a low mile MM....

Car was overheating so I had everything changed. Now the shop discovered after running water through it water is coming from exhaust.
I am a proud owner but being a woman not very mechanical. I would like to be able to still have my marauder although people say not to invest a lot money into it.
It has 80,000 miles on it.
Thanks for any suggestions. Car is located in Portland, Oregon.
My best guess^^^^^.
When you say water is coming from exhaust do you mean water with antifreeze is coming out or do you mean when car is running there is water dripping from the tailpipes? The Marauder is famous for tailpipe drip and that is normal. There are even holes drilled into the tailpipes so it can drip free of the rolled edges.
Can you clarify what you mean?

damn 4k total for a used factory engine? i paid less than rebuilding my engine and forging the internals, but i saved some money pulling it myself.
no way i would spend 4k to buy a a used engine and have it installed.
like you said i would have the head gaskets checked, compression checked to verify the integrity of the piston rings since it was overheated, and if the gasket it bad and the rings are good then just replace the head gaskets, change the spark plugs, flush the coolant system, and change the oil.
