I've got a Trilogy DPB sitting in my workshop, with 0 ohms across the pump leads. It does have a boost-a-pump but I don't think that is the problem. I think the pump may have stuck from sitting with a low tank.

I'm looking for someone who can do a professional job of replacing it and has experience with CV/MM fuel pump replacement.

Not particularly interested in taking the risk of damage during towing, or having some dealership monkey taking it out for a "test".

Have $$$ for the right person. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's not very hard to replace it yourself - you dont even have to drop the gas tank. Check in the search function for replacing fuel pump-I believe one member here also posted pics.

If you dont want to do it yourself look for a speed shop that works on mustangs. They should have no problem replacing it.

I put it up on stands and I can see it's pretty easy to remove six nuts to remove the assembly. I've done CV starters and suspension work, so I'm familiar with how to turn a wrench.

The part I'm struggling with is 1) the electrical connector is just about impossible to disconnect, and 2) I don't know how the fuel line coupling works. I have looked over some of the write-ups on this forum, but haven't quite gotten those parts of it.

Good idea about the Mustang shops, though.

You can buy the tool for the fuel lines at any parts store and the electrical connector can stay connected since you can simply clip the leads and either solder back or install a weather proof plug to reconnect!!

I fought with the damn tank and the connector on the passenger's side for a day finally using a paint stirrer and lots of BAD ENGLISH to get it plugged back in!!:mad2:

Good Luck!!

You don't have to remove it completely to change out the pump. I had to cut a couple wires to get slack. Disco the battery just in case.

If the gas level is too high, get a hand pump and suction it out by connecting to the line before the filter. It helps if you already did Musclemerc's filter mod. You can't suction it out of the filler neck.

I used several flat heads to get te fuel lines apart. I would recommend getting the disconnect tool if your doing it yourself lol. But it's not that bad!

I just replaced my fuel pump. I too have a Trilogy. Use a focus SVT pump. That is what Lidio recommended. It was a direct swap. You will need to buy the whole sender but you are just using the pump. Plus it is cheaper than the OEM one.

It wasn't real tough. Don't need to drop the tank or cut wires. Had about 3/8 of a tank and no gas came out when I broke the seal.

Here are the points:

1) Put on jack stands under the frame, and let the rear axle hang down to give you more room in front of the tank.

2) The fuel line is pretty simple - pop off the steel safety clip with a screw driver and then put the disconnect tool around the fuel line and push into the fitting to release the springs, then pull off the hose.

3) Don't need to disconnect or cut any wires, there was enough slack just by allowing some of the wire out of the flexible black conduit.

4) Definitely have to loosen the right side exhaust hangers up by the muffler and also by the tip. This allow you to push the pipe over just enough with you foot while pulling out the pump assembly.

Thanks to all who responded and helped to document this before me. I did a lot a studying and found it to be quite doable.

Here is another good writeup I found on the Crown Vic:

http://handyguides.blogspot.com/2012/02/replace-fuel-pump-ford-crown-victoria.html

So, where is the recommended source for the SVT Focus pump?

Also I looked at the AEM 320, but it looks like it would require some wire cutting and the outlet is a little larger than the stock pump. Would it fit into the stock orange flexible fuel line where the old pump was inserted?

Thanks!

I ordered the SVT Focus pump kit from Rock Auto. You have to remove the pump from the plastic housing.

One thing I will add for those interested is when just swapping the pump, There is a special clamp used by the factory to connect to the output line. I've not seen this discussed before.

It is made by Oetiker, and is a 360 degree crimp fit clamp. It won't come loose like a screw type clamp and is stainless steel.

Much to my surprise they are not stocked in auto parts stores or anywhere else near me. I had to order on eBay. The correct size is 12.3mm open 9.8mm closed. You may also need to get the Oetiker crimp tool.

Anyway, it's all back together an running well.

As far as the slack is concerned, all the wiring harnesses are installed by humans. You had a little more slack than me in your car, which is good. I tried everything to no avail. No big deal if you have to snip them.

Good job fixing it yourself.

My left nut says I can remove any MM fuel pump assembly with no cutting of wires in under 20 minutes on my back. Nuts useless anyhow.
