hello everyone I just felt like bragging a little bit haha. last weekend drove the marauder to Frankfurt which is about 2 hour drive on the autobahn and yes I was doing 140mph for about half the trip.

it felt so good having all the germans move to the right lane for me and staring at me like "what kind of car is that?" hahaha its priceless.:banana2:

hearing the engine at 5k RPM the whole time felt like I was abusing her big time though so thatll be the last time for a while

The trip from Ramstein AB to Rhein-Main AB is only 133 kms (82 miles). Trip should have taken just over an hour. I think you were cruising in KMs, not MPH. ;)

I'm jealous and proud at the same time. I'd love to do that. I'd be willing to build an engine that could handle cruising at 150mph for extended periods daily.

Do you have a police or specially balanced driveshaft?

It's all stock. . And yeah its about a hour from ramstein but I live about 30 min West of ramstein so it takes a lil longer with traffic

You need an inside cam to record some of this. I can only imagine

Yeah you need some video. Youre our only chance at seeing a marauder on the autobahn.

@tbone and mr.man why would I need one of those types of driveshafts?

@tbone and mr.man why would I need one of those types of driveshafts?

Most MM driveshafts pick up a serious vibration at 120 mph+/- which if sustained can lead to tailshaft failure which in turn can lead to more serious consequences.

The MM was supposed to come with the police interceptor driveshaft but somewhere along the line was switched to the GM shaft (cost savings most likely). You can tell by the painted lines on the shaft and I think some police shafts also say police on them. I can't remember the correct sequence of line colors to identify which is which. There is a thread that explains the sequence for identification.

Many members have switched their OEM driveshafts to the MMX, carbon fiber or Interceptor shafts which are balanced for higher speeds.

I always thought the MM was electronically governed to around 117 mph from Mercury. Your car must have a tune in which the speed governor is turned off? :)

Awesome. A transmission with more gears would be nice for autobahn cruising. Careful with the stock driveshaft.

I am pretty sure it's turned off in his tune knowing what I know about his tuner.

 yup! Marty I might be asking for a 4.10 tune soon, if I end up changing out the driveshaft I might as well get 4.10s with it.

Is there a safety loop for the driveshaft on the Marauders? Could a broken drive shaft dropping into the asphalt create an end over end collision?

So you live down near Freisen on A-62 ?? Or do you live closer to Saarbrucken on A-6 ??

Between 1975-1978, I was stationed in Baumholder and lived in a little town called Reichenbach just outside of the base. Loved it there !!! At that time, the A-62 between Freisen and Landstuhl was brand new (it ended at Freisen and didn't go all the way to Trier yet). That stretch of Autobahn had very little traffic on it way back then. I am sure that has changed quite a bit. A-6 between Saarbrucken and Mannheim was always quite busy since it was a main feeder from France to central Germany. When I was stationed in Heidelberg from 1986-1989, I noticed that traffic on all of the Autobahns had increased tremendously and that speeds were "recommended" at 120 KPH ("120 ist Genug") until you were well outside the populated areas.

It is interesting that most speed signs along the Autobahn reflect the "minimum" speeds (sometimes by lane with the left lane being the fastest). If you can't keep up to lane speed, you are required to move right. If you are already in the right lane and still cannot maintain minimum speed, get the hell off the Autobahn and take a secondary road to your destination.

Maximum speeds seem to take care of themselves by eliminating those with poor judgment or skills from the highways. Accidents that I saw on the Autobahn left very little of the car that was recognizeable. I suspect most ended in fatalities.

I loved driving on the Autobahn because European drivers are so predictable in their driving habits. They know the rules and observe them. That is not the case in the USA where drivers make up **** as they go along and do what they want like "Left Turn on Red", hog the left lane, etc. Those mistakes tend to be fatal in Germany.

Do a gear, safety loop, and drive shaft all at once. It'd be a great set up given how you get to use your car.

For arguments sake lets say with the 3.55's the MM will max out at 150mph how much slower will the car be with 4.10's assuming stock tire sizes.

Also is the stock transmission designed for sustained high speed driving?

If you install 4.10s and intend on driving at those speed more than occasionally, I would also recommend the tailshaft forced-lube mod.

I believe that the Marauder is "drag limited" and not "rev limited". That means that the car will reach top speed before it runs out of power due to aerodynamics. Therefore, it is very possible that changing to 4.10s will not affect the top end. Can anyone confirm ??

If the Marauder was rev limited, the top end would be about 130 MPH based on your initial assumption. I think that we have some here that can attest to 130+ with 4.10s.

130mph easy with my 4.10's and plenty to go. Don't get a chance to open it up regularly but no issues with DS vibration ever.

Hi all,

I always heard that a stock Marauder was rev limited to 127 mph. I've had my stock Marauder to 120 a couple of times but that's all.

This ^^^^^ supports the "drag limited" top speed of 150+ MPH. I believe that MI2QWK4U had his up to 155 MPH on the Michigan Speedway back in 2004 or so.

Mine has seen 155 with 4.10s and was still pulling pretty good. I think it would come real close to redline which should be up around 170. But of course, she's not stock.
